  • Currently have a mortgage account with 5/3 bank. I wish it would have never been sold to this bank. The way the mortgage accounts are managed is a joke. You can't pay a few days early and if you don't pay the exact amount, they snail mail a check back to you. By the time you get the check in the mail and re-deposit it, then you are paying late fees. Their customer service hours are horrible. They need hours beyond 8-5 M-F. This is what everyone else in corporate America works. I spent my 30 minute lunch break on hold. I can't afford to take off of work, to resolve an issue that I didn't create. Very sloppy and unorganized with their paperwork.

  • WOW. I wish I would have read these comments before I set up an account online. I am one of the shortest customers in their history and they DO NOT CARE. All I was trying to do was set up a no fee checking account, which I did, but then I could not log in online. I spent over 2 hours on the phone with customer service and no one could help. I asked for a call back from a management team member and was told that they won't call you. So I closed the account after 16 hours. DO NOT BANK HERE. YOU'LL BE DISAPPOINTED.

  • a fifth third worse. this bank lies. i have been trying to close my account with these awful liars and they told me last year it was closed LIE. then i went to a branch near my house and the manager there threatened me, intimidated me and was a total nothing. the next branch promised me they would do something they LIED. Lost my contact info. LIE they had my account number what else do they need maybe a seeing eye dog. i went in there yesterday and haunted the liar. no honor no integrity how could he be a banker. well he was contrite said he had a fill out a form hadn't done that yet why exactly? so i will have to micro manage this next guy
he has to talk to his bosses boss that is never going to happen. i will find his bosses boss today thats why i am here. but i just thought i would leave this comment/

  • I experienced a rude teller today, Sharon Hollis, who refused to give us corporate office information concerning missing money from her checking account. Initially, the teller stated that the money was used for fees then changed the story that she had withdrawn the money. Our next step is to file a police report someone in the bank has stolen my 86 year old mother money.

  • On January 8th 2018 I had set up for auto withdrawal to be made on my mother's car. I spoke with Theresa (didn't give last name nor any ID number). Told her my mother had passed away in December, and that she had left me the car and it was tied up in probate. On January 9th I had taken copies of Power of Attorney papers, death certificate, and copy of Will stating car was going to be transferred into my name. I had been receiving statements of confirmation that money was being taken out for payments. I had shoulder surgery April 24th, 2018 and had not noticed any confirmation mail. In fact the last piece of mail I received from Fifth Third was on Thursday August 2nd 2018. It was explaining why they took the car on Sunday July 29, 2018. When I phoned on July 30th at 915am, the woman who answered did not give me her name but had a major attitude. When I tried to explain what had happened all she would say is you missed 4 payments. Told her no one called me or sent me anything in the mail to let me know Fifth Third stopped taking money out which the money was always there. She said its their Policy to take out only for 4 months told her I set it up personally for money to be taken out until paid off. She continued on saying we kept trying to call but she was using an old number. I had given Theresa my cell number which Ive had for over 10 years and always tell people this is the best number to reach me at. Then she claimed they mailed out letters. Told her no you didn't. I live at the address on file and if I would have gotten a letter I would have taken care of the payments ASAP. She continued to argue with me. Then she said you have 3 days to come you with 10,000 to get your car back. Everything ha just finished in probate and I had just gotten my paperwork and was going on Monday to get car transferred to my name.I have never run into anything like this before in my life. I have had car loans in the past and Huntington and PNC banks were always ready to work with me not wanting to steal my car.

  • Fifth Third Bank is 5/3 worse to do business with than other banks. I have power of attorney on an account and all necessary papers are on file with 5/3. The credit card fraud department is unable to access the power of attorney on file and therefore will not speak to me about the account. They also REFUSED to call the branch where the filing was originally made to confirm the power of attorney. Once I straighten out this mess, I will transfer all funds over which I have power to another bank that provides customer service. Certainly not 5/3.

  • 5/3rd west union ohio refused to cash my sons paycheck from because of some $50.00 RULE if the check is over $50 THEY HAVE TO HAVE AN ADULT TO SIGN FOR THEM when my son has a state ID…we went to walmart to cash it they didnt have a problem one cashing it. I have always had bad luck with 5/3rd. they told him they didnt have to cash it…what's up with that? THE PAYCHECK IS DRAWN ON 5/3RD …WHYYYY WOULD THEY NOT CASH IT?? ugh. paying $3.00 TO CASH IT AT WAL MART IS ALSO RIDICULOUS. I would like to submit a complaint to corporate about this…why are you having everyone contact washington DC… why do they have to be involved in our banking business…read the says the government must not get involved with private matters of the American people. FOR EXAMPLE, requiring this and that to cash a check drawnt on that so mad over this. how can i contact corporate?>?

  • Well I have had my company banking with 5/3 for about 15yrs.
I run a credit score around 694 and wanted to do a SBA Loan
to make it through this hard winter. First thing I am told is credit score is not high enough for 5/3, but they could do it if I put my Mortgage up which I have only 9yrs left on that. Every time I try and work with them on this the first words out of their mouth is mortgage, they did not even bother to do paperwork. So much for helping a small business out and by the way my company has been around for 26yrs. and not good enough for them, others are working on the loan as I write this I believe I wasted 15yrs with 5/3.

  • My husband fell off the curb in Eaton, Oh. last week, we tryed to get them to paint the curb yellow , our reply was, it cost too much to maintain this and corp. office deny it. what can we do to get it painted. To keep him and other people from falling off of it. Dan Weadick Eaton oh.

  • I was making deposit today at your N.Olmsted branch at about 4:15, and the customer next to me was an elderly woman who was so poorly treated by your teller Nonah that I stopped to make sure she was okay once we were outside. She said that woman doesn't like her very much and she has banked here for years. She was dismissive, rude and made no eye contact. When the customer asked if a check for $200.00 had gone through the teller said"No,and if it does it will bounce." The woman tried to explain her circumstances and she was dismissed with a "well I don't see it" and when the woman said "thank you, have a nice day." the reply from Nonah was "Uh Huh", She never looked up, I was so disgusted. I tried to contact HR or Corporate about this but couldn't get access.

  • This bank is out of hand. Gave Cary Underwood in Mint Hill, NC permission to pay off debts on my credit report but the people she said she paid states they have not been paid. So now I have been asking them since 2014 when I left NC to please send me the names of the people she paid and the amounts she paid them and they will not send nothing to me but bank statements which does not show anything but debts out of account. I told them I needed names and the amount but still today they refuse to give me any information. Also had to file a police report because someone used my account and took money out of it and they have done nothing. When I filed a dispute the lady was very rude and I told her she was and she told me she would deny the dispute if I did not shut up and listen to her. I told her she could not do that because it had to be investigated and she said watch me denied and hung up the phone. So now still today nothing has been done and they are trying to make me pay all of this money that was stole out of this account and I'm not paying one dime. This bank is a joke and needs to be sued or shut down. They will have to disclose where my money went to and who they paid. This is stealing from me and they know it. They state they don't have this info but she should she paid it out of my account and had a file on everything but when asked they don't have it. What a joke Cary Underwood you are a falsifier, perjurer, prevaricator and need to be stopped! I need to know what you did with my money and who you paid. This will not end until they provide proof of everything and correct this account. Also the 2 debt cards they said they sent never arrived and they have continue to leave these cards open until today 3/18/2016 A long time of not doing your jobs you think. They should of been shut down the day I called and reported that I didn't get them. So who knows what has went on with this account!

  • I have had a commercial loan with Fifth Third Bank in Flint, Michigan since 2002. I have payed on time and am current with my contractual responsibilities. Despite this fact; Fifth Third has decided NOT to process my renewal, in favor of foreclosure and liquidation of my business. This makes no sense to me as they will no longer be making any money from a well paying customer and loosing money from lost equity and legal fees. They have made no effort to work with me. I am investigating their predatory lending practices and "Red Line" policies as they have done similar thing to other business in this area. I will be writing letters to the top Executive Officers to inform them of the illogical practices that their employees are doing.

  • Don't protect Customers from Credit Card Fraud. On 11/17/15 My card had a Fraudulent Charge from a Sign Repair guy who had worked on My Company sign and Been Paid in full Via Company check.Since I could not locate the card and had never authorized the charge nor signed any credit slip or contract I immediately reported the card stolen. 2-3 days Later a Large Angry Convict told me how dare I report him, let him explain. I stated no explanation necessary just refund the charge. I followed the procedure and sent 5/3 a letter stating that no charge was authorized, no work was done, no merchandise was purchased. I was told to relax I have $0.00 libility. Then a month later on my NEW account I see that the same charge has been placed on me again…. 3 requests later I get the "Documentation from the merchant as to why the charge was legal". All it is is the same Fraudulent credit card receipt with clearly not my signature that prompted me to call these morons and report the fraud in the first place!!! No Invoice, no list of Merchandise bought, No report of work rendered, nothing but a charge slip.for a stolen credit card swiped on 11/17/15 for $1069.55 So now I have been talking to 5/3 "Management" and a week later they still can't figure out how to credit my New account the charge that was reported fraudulent on my old account from 4 months ago…..

  • I am trying to complete a mortgage and has been 3 mo with constant delays, in underwriting for a week, no return of dailey calls

  • This bank resemble some criminal. Their processing service charged and continue to charge me fee in which the contract state "Fee was waved".I spend over 5 hour on the phone with customer service, supervisor that acted as if they seen the issue but can't help because it was a different department. And when they final gave my money back(two week process)3 weeks later the same issue (mess) happen again. I will never use them as my primary bank or bank period. Once I get out of this contract. I'm leave them for good

  • isn't there any governmental agency that can be involved into this beast of a bank and put it in it's place once and for all.

  • This has got to be one of the worst banks for customer service I have ever seen. From the drive in window to refinancing a mortgage it becomes obvious that this bank could care less about their customers.

  • 5/3 bank sells financial instruments that their employees are not trained to sell. They sell cashier's checks and give out incorrect information regarding expiration dates of the instrument. They also send funds to the state without verifying that they are indeed abandoned.Either this bank don't know or don't care about the rules. They violate laws and disrespect their customers!

  • Cashier's checks may not have expiration date but beware they are sent to the state by 5/3 illegally after a period of time that no one can tell you what that time is. SMH Sadddddddd!.

  • 5th3rd really messed up our credit by telling us to short sale our old home after our new mortgage gets approved and it will fall under the federal forgiveness act?? 3 years later, we are trying to get an equity loan on the $100k equity we have, and they are telling me that because of the short sale, we don't qualify for any equity loan. Now I am sitting with a short sale on my credit history that dropped my score tremendously, and they offer no assistance on an equity loan. Worst company I have ever dealt with.

  • Like "magic", today those phone numbers that were useless yesterday are working today.
I am on hold with a "Scott" right now (he's had me on hold for like 6 minutes)
After explaining my situation, he tells me that the information on my warning letter is incorrect, and that I actually owe a lot more than what the letter tells me will bring me out of default.
Still holding…. is this going to be another waste of my time?
I am doing as they have asked and I am trying to communicate with them, but I don't think that I'm getting anywhere.
Wow! He actually came back and told me that, although I will still be in default, he will make a note in my file that I am going to follow the instructions on the letter I received, and pay only what they are asking for.
I am a little surprised that he wasn't difficult with me and actually seemed to understand my situation.
I don't believe that our little communication will stop any of the phone calls I am continuously receiving at home, but at least I made the effort!
Next time I attempt to obtain a car loan, I will not be be looking to Fifth / Third.

  • So I call back and speak with a "Cam"… she explains that they are just in "Customer Service" and are not trained to handle loan inquiries… suggests that I give it a little while to call back, as the current "Wait Time" is 16 minutes; "AIN'T NOBODY GOT TIME FOR THAT!" (lol)
Oh and BTW – the "Corporate Phone Number" listed at the top of this page is "NOT IN SERVICE" !!!
    Ugh! I hate banks…
But come back tomorrow for an update on "As The Stomach Turns"

    – csm06/30/2015

  • I received two separate letters regarding my delinquent auto loan. My attempts to contact them were FUTILE! Two different phone numbers; neither one worked. I looked up Corporate's number and spoke with a Chjuante (???) – (Claims it's pronounced Chante')
After describing the reason for the call, she claims that she will transfer me to a "Loan Specialist"
That was 12 minutes ago! I keep getting the obligatory "We apologize for the delay; please continue to hold for the next available agent"
Now, after an additional 5 minutes, I'm going to hang up and try them back….don't go anywhere; I'll let you know how it all turns out.

  • I am executor of a family member's estate. I closed the Fifth Third account; but was notified a few weeks later than I had an overdraft charge. The service rep. told me that the closed account was "automatically re-opened" to allow for the debit. And I am now charged with an overdraft fee.

  • 11. Brandy would attempt to redirect the clients focus to the letter of credit criteria almost as if she was reading from a script before apologetically being forced to admit that she was in error by not even being receptive of the original request made with regards to the various banking services available.
    12. Making a second trip to the bank branch located downtown to drop off copies of instruments requested by Brandy for review to Andrew Barker the client took the time out to give Mr. Barker a brief overview of how to look the Trust up online as well as providing more information from the sealed Trust instrument on 2/23/2015.
    13. Due to the fact that so much time has been wasted the client noted that he would be counting the seconds not the minutes, hours, or days.
    14. The client would not receive any feedback whatsoever after dropping off the instruments until making contact with Ms. Lee Ferris, Vice President and Brandy’s direct superior in rank within the bank.
    15. Ms. Ferris position was that after the bank received the instruments that their immediate reaction was to refer all correspondence to the Bank Protection Department and that the likelihood of the bank rejecting the instruments and refusing any further business with the client is all but assured due to the “conservative” nature of the bank and the lack of comprehension of the bank pertaining to the nature of the Trust in question.
    16. This client wants to be clear that William Isaac, Kevin Hart, and any of the owners or other shakers and movers be prepared to deal with these matters in a court of competent jurisdiction personally and that is just one of the lawful remedies that will be employed by this client if the correspondence received on 3/2/2015 is not agreeable to the services that have been requested by said client.
    17. The lack of common courtesy, discrimination, and outright incompetence will not be tolerated and if it persists will be swiftly answered within all lawful or legal means or remedies available to this client.

    Sincerely and Diligently Yours,
    The Sheik

  • 1. Account first opened up as a trust within a retail branch in March of 2014 for banking purposes.
    2. Client request services far beyond what the retail banking department has to offer.
    3. The Financial Center Manager (James Moretti) on site referred the client to a David Mistic.
    4. Client also notices that the bank charges a monthly service fee of $11.00 on retail accounts that do not exceed a minimum monthly balance.
    5. Client never receives proper referral to any individual within the institution to assist with setting up any business, commercial, or private accounts despite the fact that the instruments utilized to open up the initial account provide the evidence of a land Trust so enormous that there is no conventional means of determining it’s value.
    6. After much diligent research and being subjected to various internal banking spin tactics the complaint was finally launched on 1/28/2015.
    7. The Client would receive a call from a person named Brandy in the Office of the President the next day on 1/29/2015 marking the first time someone returned a call from the bank after getting no calls back from the Financial Center Manager (that being either James or his replacement and current FCM-Andrew Barker) and a Joey Latrell within the Private banking Department.
    8. It would not be until two weeks 2/13/2015 later that the client again would hear from Brandy who requested that Joey nor Andrew be contacted and that the client should only contact her to keep confusion to a minimum.
    9. The client made request for expedited services to be rendered due to matters of emergency that needed to be tended to by the Trust and that accommodations be arranged for business, private, commercial accounts that would be able to receive negotiable instruments on deposit drawing down from the massive trust presented by the client.
    10. Brandy not attempting to understand the client only had one conference call with three unidentified individuals within the commercial banking department and Andrew Barker to show for a whole week that was wasted which the client would find out on 2/20/2015 after hearing about the “criteria” necessary for a borrower on a letter of credit.

  • Complaint FTB 15-01-0029 1232
Note to Corporate Headquarter and the Bank Protection Department of 5/3 Bank
This a follow up to the complaint started on 1/28/2015 which thus far has proven to be even more of a disaster than the lack of services that initiated the complaint in the first place. Let us start from the beginning shall we?

  • Opened accounts with enough money to not be charged fees. the bank is still charging me. They try to stop this charge but alas it happened again this month.

  • I had a account with fifth third bank and was expecting a large sum of money.
    Your agent: Mr. Chris Williams
investigated the transaction and found it was a fraudulent deal. He saved me from a large law suit and I'm grateful for his work.

    Thanks again, Clifford

  • Started HSA account transfer to my credit union on December 12th. CU faxed application next day, according to 5/3 mandate that it had to be faxed. Still no transfer. Called yesterday and rep said they did not get it until 1/7/15 and it would be 6-8 weeks to process from that date. Really?

  • I just received a letter from 5/3 telling me they had rolled over a CD and locked it in for another 60 months. They did this 3 days prior to my close date and AFTER I had temporarily moved the funds
into another 5/3 checking account. Oh, yes, they gave me some double talk….apologized….but it is still stealing!!!! The letter was almost left unopened and was headed to my shredder as it appeared to be an advertisement. I want to be paid the "substantial interest penalty" they threatened!!!!!

  • this happened to me as well I just spoke with a customer service supervisor name Tamera who stated she would refund half of my fees. what in the world is this!!!! I am following you and changing to PNC today! thanks for the tip

  • I made a cash deposit at an ATM. which ate my $1000.00
called the bank they issued a credit. Problem solved, yay 5/3 not as bad as I think….. NOT TRUE a month later I receive a letter saying claim DENIED. the ATM balanced thus we reversed the credit, and BTW you are now $980 over drawn
    FK OFF 5/3

  • They are criminals and something needs to be done about it. Charging you overdrafts when money is in bank then making excuses for charging. Thing Federal Banking Commission needs to hear
the complaints. Sorry excuse for a bank.

  • I see that this bank will not let you talk to any one in the Corp. Office which strikes me as being odd for I have been in business for over 50 some years and people have always been able to contact the Corp. Office and speak with a low level executive. This bank has built a wall around it Corp Officers to protect them, mikes me think they are criminals or something.

  • This Bank likes to peoples money and not process when the monies are due. Which in reality gives them extra monies to play with for a day and you figure if they do that with over 1,000 of pay checks they could make a lot of money in interest or stock monies.

This a crook Bank if anyone has seen one.

    • I totally agree fifth third bank is crooks. I had set up auto withdraw for my car loan and THEY ONLY DID 4 MONTHS!!!! NEVER CALLED OR SENT ME ANYTHING IN MAIL THEN CAME AND STOLE MY CAR!!! I never had trouble with banks or car notes in past until this bank

    • Used to do the Check Processing and Direct Dposits for Fifth Third Customers operating the Mainframe Computer and LAN for the Bank and its Retail and Commercial Customers. This is known as Float. Until that Deposit Item is Processed after the Bank closes for the day you make the deposit your paycheck is still on both check book ledgers your account and the account of the employer where you work. Until your check clears the bank of your employer Fifth Thirds policy gives you only provisional credit for the deposit and only say the 1st $100 or $150 is available the 1st day. These items are known as Transit and go through the ACH System with the Federal Reserve and are sent from the Federal Reserve Bank to your Employers bank to post. Usually its only about 2 days or what is known as 2 day float. Once your employers bank accepts it assuming availbale funds then your entire paycheck is availble at your bank. If the issuing bank that gave you the check that you deposited has insuffient funds then its retured to your bank with an endorsement suffience funds not available. With Modern Technology most of the time today its not necessary to send the check back via the ACH Automatic Clearing House of the Federal Reserve. Instead your bank and the issuing bank agree to electronicaly debit the issuing banks account the same day over computer networks. Now its only 1-day float but many times even though it speeds up processing and it seems there is no delay as it goes through the system your bank may impose a 2 day float rule until your funds are available. Which is why people also use overdraft protection at their bank. You see it on receipts all the time when you shop if you use a check and hand it to the cashier that they process it elctronicaly by sending an image via the ACH system. If you want your paycheck and its funds available upon deposit Fifth Third Bank insists that you use Direct Deposit. Its less costly to process the item and you receive your funds the same day plus it saves the Bank Processing Costs. Fifth Third Bank processes Thousands of transactions every day. Paper Transactions are very costly to the bank and time consuming for the customer because you wait. The path your checks travel as they go through the system via ACH depends on the Federal Reserve District you Bank in. When you recieve your Money via Direct Deposit the Payroll is sent by your employer on an ACH Computer File that is sent to the Fed Bank by a Computer Network. At the Fed the Computers there then Sort all the paychecks to the banks where the Customers Bank anywhere in the Country by sorting on the Routing Number. The Routing Number identifies where you bank and where you want the Check to go. That file withyour Paycheck arrives 1 day before you are paid and is processed by your bank that same night but none of the Funds are available yet. If the day is a Holiday or a Day when the Bank does not process – then you receive your direct deposited funds 1 day early. The advantage of direct deposit – 1 your save time 2. your funds are available immediately. Since it benifits the bank they don't make you wait those 2 days even though its still a 2 day item – it also prevents loss of the check and the hassle and delay of re-issuing a lost deposit/payroll check. I always use direct deposit. Ask your banker today.

  • I am flipping pissed off, I recieved a paycheck yesterday drawn on 5/3rd bank , so I went to 5/3rd to cash it only to be charged a fee to cash it, long and short of it is it cost me and not the account holder so I recieved less than I had comming (WTH)
