  • LA Fitness in Woodbury, NJ…The managers of this club are sneaky, slimey, unethical. My husband, whose first language is Spanish, was harassed by their personnel to sign up for training. He agreed to sign up for a month and was told that he could sign up for the trainer as needed thereafter. My husband said he signed the screen to have his credit card charged for the month of training. At the end of the month, he told them that he wanted to reduce the training. THAT is when he found out that he had actually signed for a year. They misrepresented what he was actually getting. He never wanted training for a full year at $698 a month. Not only this, they never gave him any paperwork regarding this supposed "contract". Yet, when he joined the gym, they gave him a 4 page contract for the monthly membership of $30.00. Kind of funny that he has a contract for $30 a month but not $698 a month for a whole year.

So now, LA Fitness Corp. is telling us the only way out of the contract is to pay 50% of the balance. Of course we will fight it and have blocked them from charging the credit card.

Be careful when you deal with these people. Their concern is not "good health" as they say. Their concern is the almighty dollar and they will stop at nothing to get it.

I hope their unethical "ethics" land them in bankruptcy.

  • I went to the Huntington Beach location today for the first time and it was the most disgusting womens locker room I have ever been in!!!!!!!! LA Fitness you need to clean up your act or you are going to lose alot of memberships to all these private gyms popping up all over the place here in Cali

  • LA FITNESS HAS TOP NOTCH EQUIPMENT AND MOST CHICAGO AREA LOCATIONS HAVE A VARIETY OF EXERCISE CLASSES. Therefore, it is not the physical club,it is the personnel problems that cause a club to fail: from the trainers, direct service staff, managers and field supervisors to the business accounting office. Regardless of your current acquisition, when you can not pay employee's correctly the company is getting ready to fail. Your business office errors: pays some people "to much" and other's "to less" and other's "not at all". I have lots of proof. Ask your employees!!!! Word to the Wise: Get a handle on this quick or wake-up broke some day.

    • I started going back to the LA Fitness on York rd in Oakbrook because of a work relocation. OMG is all I have to say! I thought LA Fitness bought Ballys not the other way around. The club got nasty fast! No more locker service you have to bring a lock. No more towel service that is $10.00 a month. There were peanuts and hair balls by the free weights and the mirrors looked like there had been an all night orgy against them. In the mens shower in one of the stalls the handle was broken off, the shower head and the handle socket were shooting water everywhere! I wonder how long that has been like that. I am very disappointed in LA Fitness. I rejoiced when they took over Ballys but now I see it is just smoke and mirrors!

  • I've been requesting a copy of my contract aka agreement and apparently since this was done so long ago, over 16 years, before they had an electronic system in place apparently it is impossible to get it?

I went to a branch and they told me that I needed to contact corporate, I called corporate and they told me that I needed to go into the branch.

    Ah, Bureaucracy at it’s best!

I guess that’s what I get for being a loyal customer for 16 years!

  • I'm disgusted by La verne, Ca. branch I felt coerced into personal training not realizing until later that it was a year contract…they are awful they do this to everyone if you sign up with the gym automatically the personal training manager calls you in for an appt. and gulible people like me realize maybe this is a good idea mind you the trainer is this slimy smarmy guy who smiles and looks like a ufc fighter…but he never tells you that it is a year contract or anything. they want to help with issues either so I'm stuck paying for something I'm not even using. stay far far away!!!!!

    • They did the same thing at the gym here in Keller, Texas. My daughter who is a single mom and does not have much money, called and asked me if I would pay for her to have a month of personal training for $170. I gave her my credit
card information and said yes. Then the next month they billed me again…7 months later I am
still dealing with them! She went back and looked the trainer right in the face and said you lied to me! He then changed it to a 3 month contract instead of a 13 month, which she never even knew it was 13 because he told her it was one month! Now they are still running my card, when I called them they told me to go after my daughter for criminal charges for using my card without my permission, sickening! I told them they were the criminal. This place is beyond crooked, I would never recommend anyone to go to that place! In fact I tell everyone I know that they are a terrible place, hopefully it will all come back to them soon!

    • They did the same thing here at the gym in Yonkers, New York. I went in for the complimentary session and got me to sign to several sessions plus 26 free sessions. When I saw that more money was coming out of the credit card, I went to speak to the manager. He didn't even acknowledge that I was there. He kept ignoring me. I am so upset I never would have agreed to such lengthy and expensive scenario. I have been working so hard to get out of all my debts that I can't even afford to send my daughter to daycare, and then these people trick me into signing this so called contracted. Ever since I found out about this I have had anxiety attacks and depressed. I still can't believe that I am being forced to pay this when I was tricked and pressured. Please don't fall for the TRAP!!!!!

    • Yes,I'm disgusted by La verne, Ca. branch too I have been going there for the pass 5-years but,
now I stoped going, beacuse when I saw that money was coming out of my account for some one else, I called and spoke to the manager she ignored me I told her I'm cancelling she didn't even say anything to stop me, its awful the La Verne location, please dont sign up with them!!!!

  • whomever is handling the PR for the transition of Bally's buyout, needs to be replaced. The whole process from start to finish was the most insensitive(too many to list) that someone should definitely file a class-action suit. I'm Korean, and I found out that the founder of this company is Korean. Korean people do not operate business this way. They are more accommodating and respectful to their customers. My only guess is that some uneducated Neanderthal climbed the corporate ladder who has no sensitivity or respect for people in general. I'm in Portland Oregon, and I thought Bally's people were idiots, LA fitness is worse, as far as whomever was handling the closing process of 6 locations and it's communications.

    • The recent announcement of LA Fitness closing down the recently acquired Bally facilities is appalling. A "Dear John" note at the front desk letting EVERYONE know they are closing those facilities down on Feb. 29. The employees were blind-sided by this and they have to function knowing they have a week and a half of employment. Absolutely NO COMPASSION! L.A. Fitness…Your employees count and you just cut them off at the knees. Shame on you.

    • The same things have happened in Michigan. I recieved notice through a posting at my local gym, that it was closing in 3 weeks! I immediatly cancelled my membership, however, will still be paying for another 30days with the "last month" fee paid at the beginning of the membership.
I was told by coporate office, "too bad", as I had a gym available "close by". Which is 25 minutes from my house and 45 minutes from my work.
This is no way to do business, and a class action suit would be a perfect. I know the monthly dues is not expensive, but it is the point, not the money!

    • I just called to renew my membership and modify it to a family membership. I was quoted a outrageous price which would have been better and cheaper to do it independently. When I questioned the cost I was hung up on

    • I agree with the class action part. I belong to the Cypress Creek Station Gym in Fort Lauderdale, FL and the most of the staff are idiots. The gym if dirty and not maintained. The cleaning staff is allowed only four hours a day to clean this large gym. Everyone else sets down and plays on the computers. Not one employee has a desire to maintain customer satisfaction or even be friendly. I hope they close them all in Florida. They are horible!

  • My Name is Marcos Moreno and im a SSG in the Army and take pride on working out and going to a place i can utilize as i travel.

Your new GYM (southside Tucson, AZ) STARTED off good, but has taken a turn for the worse and today over 500 of my friends found out via Facebook.

I have asked 3 different people for HOT WATER in the bathrooms, try shaving with Cold water. Nothing yet! It is sad when i have to wake up and shave at home before i go to the gym.

Today at 0815 the bathrooms looked as if there were drunken men partying all night, urine smell and urine all over both toilets.

Then the sign of no paper towels till the following week, unacceptable!

I will continue my mission to ensure somethings gets done!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    thank you

    Marcos

    • I applaud and commend you sir for taking notice and taking action. Many people will talk the talk but will not walk the walk. Their is the elite group of people with simularities to you and I that have these special skills to not be afraid of being heard, bringing it to the table and make it be known to this disfunctional corporate world atmosphere. MN taking notice and taking charge.

    • It is sad that a company that requires their dues to be paid each month, can not provide clean healthy areas for their members. I belong to LA Fitness in Tacoma Wa. And have reported dirty restrooms and swim poolsfor several months now, and nothing has changed for the better (maybe worse even), but today I was looking forward to using the hot tub, but the tub was actually slimmy green and barley warm.
The swers are so dirty with hair and grime that members stand on paper towels so they don't have to touch the floors. I don't think this is the reason I wanted to join a HEALTH club.
I guess the Health dept. needs a few call

    • Do to the rudeness of the manager Shaun Spainlock at the Mockingbird location, I just joined Gold's Gym. He basically told me to leave the gym and never come back because I asked for a week pass. He said once you had been a member before that was not allowed and that was stupid to want to check out the gym again, nothing had changed. So I guess he was trying to say that the equipment was still broken. Good riddance.

  • It is sad that there is so much crime at the la fitness gyms in florida, particularily in Orlando at the 4 to 5 clubs. For quite some time, my wife and I as well as others would always see police in the parking lots writing burglary reports for cars being broken into. Also, theft is a common regularity inside the club. The club does have fliers addressing crime watch, however it has been reported that some criminals have been daring enough to bring small bolt cutters to break into lockers and steals purses and wallets. The thiefs know that people do lock belongings in their car so they teal the car keys out of the la fitness gym lockers. From there they go to the parking lot with the keys ad use the remote car ket to locate the car and teal the belongings hidden in the car, wallets, purses, phones, cash, credits etc. At that point I imagin peoples identity are stolen while more theft nd fraud occurs. Why can't La Fitness install video cameras in the common areas of the club and the property owner have cameras recording crime such as muggings, car break ins and so on. I know clubs in California and Nevada that have video cameras to protect the club staff and members. There has been crime recorded in the past in clubs helping catch the criminals. I know because of privacy issues cameras cannot be installed in locker rooms. It is sad that many of the staff and managers show no care or concern for the break ins in the lockers at the clubs. If people showed more care and concern for others and themselves maybe businesses would be more enjoyable and safer to frequent. It is bad enough there is a lot of crime, however it is even more disheartening when some of these issues could be resolved but are not.

    • The head of personal training in our gym was recently arrested and charged with a felony for stealing from members while they were working out.

    • El a fitness is the worst health club ever I bring my child into the kids club there are over 45 kids with 10 ladies watching the place is filthy dirty my child comes home with black feet I have to immediately wash her off when I ask the front desk tour manager to port more help and there he tells me they're only allowed one person got to be kidding me I also work for the health department in Florida things will change mark my word

  • I have been a member at your gym at Lake Success in New York almost 6 years now.Me and a big group of racquetball players use the courts at the weekend mostly and to our disappointment a lot of times the courts get wet from the humidity,in result to waste the day of working out.For a corporation that big and for a gym that big it should be a better way of handling the temperature.there is no way to take 4 days to fix a temperature if it has to be done locally or through corporate. We like this gym and we like to stay here,it is up to you to keep us.BILL

    • I am reading all the negative comments on this site and am increasingly distressed. Everything you are saying seems to be true of the LA Fitness brand. They have recently purchased LifeStyle Family Fitness where I work out in Orlando and I can see the handwriting on the wall. LFF in Hunter's Creek has been a real community gym with Les Mills elite programs, Zumba, Silver Sneakers and a very active teen program. Our instructors are the best I have ever worked with. Now all that is going away. Worst of all, LA Fitness clearly has no respect for its members as they have not made a formal announcement but programs have already been cut and the Fitness Director has been fired. What a terrible corporation. Shame on them. I certainly do not plant to maintain my membership with them.

    • I joined Balleys fitness in Tucson when it was fairly new as with the Country club at the end of Country Club road. I have seen all of these gyms slowly fall apart in the area of consistent housekeeping, maintenance and attention to detail. Hell, the Balleys had to set out buckets on to catch the roof leaks with tile falling off the walls with mold behind it. This went on for a year before they finally closed. I have seen all of the LA Fitness gyms open in Tucson and have been a member for many years. So yes, when they are new their great. The oldest location is still in decent shape although it needs updated machines and weights and usually has at least one broken machine and urinal. TV's are old school. It needs to catch up with the others. The newest just opened two miles from my house. Great! The other two are in good shape. There is a common thread with the new construction in the gyms and it is the fit and finish in the locker rooms and the pool and spa area. Very rough, sloppy and messy. Like the block layers are doing the finish work. The pool and spa are need to be ventilated better as you can barely stand the chlorine fumes. I have a pool and spa at home, but it keeps from using the one at the gym. The housekeeping is good in the main gym room in all the gyms, but not consistent in the locker rooms and bathrooms. Soaps and handcleaners are sometimes empty. The new gym is nice. I really like the small item lockers you added by the front doors. Perfect for keys, wallets and sunglasses. This new gym was late in opening and rushed to open as you can tell as many things are unfinished. The new machines are nice as most have built in fans and slide select-a-weight tabs for weight selection on them. I do get the impression from the staff that if your not opening a new membership, that your just a number and nuisance in their day. ie don't make eye contact or they might ask a question.

    • The LA fitness Stone Mountain on Hwy 78 is the worst ever. The personal trainers are rude unless you are paying for a trainer. Most of the trainer are out of shape. The gym is always HOT. This gym have now roped out an area for personal training which members have been using for a while now. When no one is training in the area, the trainers come by and harass you until you leave the area. Call the headquarter office and spoke with Lauren, she's was as nasty as the trainers. Im finding a new gym.

    • im sorry but I believe I have the worst gym in Orlando fl
the staff take advantage of the ladies self asteam and pray on them, the staff on Orlando fl goldenroad gym are stalkers and home wreckers…keep your kids and wifes away…

    • LA Fitness in Fort Myers FL is the worst gym on the planet -period!! The mental midget running the place is an absolute idiot! It’s southwest FLA. and its hot and humid here the majority of the year. The spin room A/C has been out for weeks now! It breaks every summer and idiots can never fix it- totally unacceptable for a business which clients pay monthly dues. The stupid pencil neck that runs the joint won’t even let us have a fan in the room for Christ sake! Bathrooms are filthy, smell like total ass and the clock in the sauna of a spin room stopped working. Large groups work out in the AM and need to get to work on time, hey there’s simple concept. The clock was reported last week, probably a dead triple AAA battery, easy fix you think, and nope, they just remove the clock! Total lunacy!!!

There’s a large group who has had enough and will be moving to another gym! Enough is enough with this place!

    • Sorry but, I have to disagree with comment published Aug. 14, 2012. You cannot have the worst LA Fitness gym on the planet… I DO! LA Fitness bought, Lifestyle Family Fitness, in Naples, FL on Golden Gate Blvd. and the ruined it. THE A/C HAS BEEN BROKEN IN THE CLASSROOM FOR A LOOONG TIME HERE TOO! They got rid of most of the friendly employees and their Les Mills classes and all of the certified trainers for them. Now, their classes are AWFUL. Everybody is jumping ship.

The only good thing left about that gym is their Zumba program

    • Beware of any members with addons, I recently have some charges for a personal trainer from one of my add-on members without my concent. LA Fitness now claims that they are authorized. Read on EFT/CC REQUEST section 5. In which clearly states that they will not charge unless the primary instruct to do so. LA Fitness is now playing dumb and want to steal my money. This is a total rip-off

    • I go to West Miami LA Fitneess, this WAS a brand new Gym. I have pictures, all the equipment is dirtty, rusted, batroom mold, 2 of the 3 urinals are out. The door for the sauna has not closed properly for 1 year, the place is full at all hrs so its not lack of funds. To use the weight equip. you always have to wait.

    • What shocks me is that not one of these comments are positive! Get a clue LA Fitness its time to restructure your investment.

    • I've been a member for 2 years and tried to make an online prepayment. The payment did not go through and I recieved a system error message from the L.A. Fitness website. I called the gym to see what was going on and they said my card had been rejected. I checked my balance online (knowing that they were wrong) only to find out that the monthly fee was taken out four times!! My bank can not do any thing because the charges are pending and have been this way for a week. So, not only did I not get to pre-pay on my account, my credit card balance is being held in limbo because L.A. Fitness refuses to do anything about the situation.

    • Well LA Fitness just purchase Urban Active gyms in Columbus Ohio about a month or so ago. Now all urinals in the mens locker room has been broken for weeks and the place looks terrible. Sounds like we need to look for an alternative to LA Fitness. Lifetime is an awesome gym here in Ohio.

    • You have got to wake up and pay attention to this business. I read with interest some of the criticisms of your clubs throughout the US and there are common themes. Whether its cleanliness, a simple fix of a clock not working, billing issues, or heat / AC problems. These criticisms could not be better stated if I sat here and penned them as I’ve experienced with the operation in South Windsor. It is filthy and frankly not sanitary. When the soap dispensers in the men’s locker room go empty, if even for one hour, no one can properly clean themselves. Additionally, there is a chronic lack of paper towels and the chronic loss of hot water. The hot water is out again and if this is a sequel to the last, recent episode it will take a week to repair. We’re talking HOT water in the middle of winter on the East coast! Three weeks to change a clock battery…ridiculous, but benign. Hot water…seriously.

I attend, every day, your club in South Windsor, CT and have personally witnessed the meteoric rise in club members and I am now witnessing the precipitous loss of many familiar faces as they abandon your club. It’s sad and disturbing, since ostensibly your corporation is oblivious to obvious. Someone in your group has lost focus or somehow contaminated your corporate fiber. Whatever it is, you should figure out, it will cripple if not close your company.

    • I go to 4 different clubs between my house and work. They all are becoming rundown and gross. The floors where the classes are held show OLD sweat spots, there is ALWAYS at least one piece of equipment broken and a lot of the time th AC doesn't work properly. And we are in HOUSTON where it's 75 on a winter day, much less 100 in the summer. They are convenient to me, and no competition, but it there was I know at least 2 dozen of us who would be out the door. The mgmt. doesn't care. I recently visited a new club they opened and the equipment is of course wonderful. Too bad they can't see fit to replace old equipment that is broken and slowly phase in new equipment at the older clubs. Advice DON'T JOIN UNLESS IT'S THE ONLY CLUB AROUND

    • New Gym in Jacksonville Florida is by far the worst run business (let alone the worst gym) I have ever been to. I signed up my wife and 4 year old to day care. They never told me day care was only open 8am-12 noon. My wife went for her first visit as she signed up for a tour.
When they got there they said the guy she spoke with was new and never made an appointment. She felt the girls behind the desk didn't care about her situation. I called there later that evening and the "membership" person cut me off half way through and told me it didn't happen the way my wife said. I said "are you calling my wife a liar?" She then said "hold please" and a guy picked up 3 1/2 minutes later and said "hello". I said "who is this" he said Chris, I said "I was speaking to a lady". He then responded I am the General Manager can I help you. So I explained my issue to him as well, (the 3rd person).
I was trying to cancel my membership based on the fact the day care was not open during the times my wife would like to work out. Needless to say, he was very defensive and explained my contract to me. I called the corporate office and the "manager in charge" told me there is nothing they could do but credit my $10.00 per month fee for Daycare.
This company will loose much more money than the $170.00 I paid them. I am now going to be a HUGE P.I.A. to this company and tell everyone I know……DO NOT JOIN THIS GYM ANYWHERE!!!

    • The LA Fitness Gym on I-20 in Grand Prairie, TX is filthy. 2 showers in the women's locker room have been out of service for months. One of the working showers has a big glob of hair on the floor. It has never been cleaned. Another shower has a plastic bag on the floor. It has not been cleaned. Their idea of "servicing" a broken shower is to put a "Caution – Wet Floor" sign up. Their idea of "servicing" a broken or plugged toilet is to lock that stall from the inside. The swimsuit water extractors broke in both locker rooms. Instead of fixing them, the gym removed them. When I have asked when the repairs are going to occur, the girls at the front
desk look annoyed that I interrupted their Facebook time on their phones. Oh, and one of their sales reps was standing by the front door smoking a cigarette on his break.

    • Ypur all wrong, my gym in Hyde Park chicago il is the worst but they kept telling members for the last few years(when LA Fitness bought Bally's) to hang in there. They are building you a brand new LA Fitness to open this year in Fall 2013. Oh yeah it is beautiful but yesterday the sign went up and it's a signature club and our membership is not valid there!!
What a slap in the face!!!

    • I have been with LA Fitness for 5 years in South Florida. I have been sick for past few weeks and couldn't come. I came today and couldn't believe what the management department had done. They cut all the locks in a locking room and threw away all my personal belongings. It is about $300 in boxing equipment, resistance bands, jump rope, nice sport bag and so on. It is all gone now!!! Crazy!!! I was told that they put signs to empty lockers a few weeks ago. It is the way they treat people! What about people like me who were not able to know about it being sick or out of town….???? Who is responsible for STEALING ? Do you know how many professional ways You could find to empty your locker rooms to avoid this horrible situation??? I have been in hospitality business for ten years and I tell You that at least 10 without hard thinking…. I have read everything below and can tell that LA Fitness will be facing a law suit sooner or later. I will keep everybody updated how my conversation will go with GM of LA Fitness department at 5591 Sheridan Street, Hollywood, FL 33021 (954) 985- 0194.

    • I am ashame to say that LA FITNESS IS CHARGING BETWEEN $45-55 A SESSION AND THEY ONLY DO 25MINS SESSIONS. That is a rip off. Here is the saddest part, the money we spend to have a trainer not even half of it goes to the trainer. My trainer told me he only makes $6 a session. Why would I want to pay $55 a session when the trainers they have are paid like a cheap high school student. THIS CLUB IS THE WORST CLUB EVER AND THEY DEVALUE THEIR TRAINERS…..

    • L.A. Fitness are crooks and the worst gym ever. The gym in Moreno Valley lied and stole from me just to sign my daughter up was an initiation fee of 120 and still have to pay 36 a month. Then with me they made me pay 96 initiation and the guy Daniel who was fired signed me up under his membership and I was suppose to pay 25 a month. Now they said I agreed to 36 a month. The worst gym and people who work there should be fired. Daniel and Myoshi are crooks and they should not be working at this gym. Anybody who signs up for this gym should not do so, they will lie to you so they can get your money and then change your membership at a higher rate. Do not sign up for this gym. It is the worst gym in Moreno Valley, Ca. near the Mall. The newer gym is much nicer and everyone who works at that gym are much more professional. If you live around this area and want to still be a member its best to go sign up at the newer gym in Moreno Valley.

    • I've been disappointed with LA Fitness. There have been several times when instructors have not shown up and nobody came to even tell us that the class was cancelled. One time, nobody came to open the club in the morning, and about 50 people were waiting outside not knowing what was going on.We just got meek apologies when the person with the key finally came. For the Zumba classes, we have to wait in line outside the class for about a half hour because the class is overcrowded. They won't let us sign in and then go work out. No, we have to wait around while some people let their friends cut in line so no matter how early I get there, I keep ending up toward the back of the line. The manager gave a snarky, sarcastic response when I tried to talk to her about it. She was completely apathetic.

    • i am a LA Fitness member in the Lake Grove,NY facility, I regret to write
this letter to you. I have my car broken into last Thursday 8/22 between
7am – 8:15am, nothing was stolen secondary to my alarm going off. when i
went back inside to report the incident to staff members, I asked about
security cameras for their parking lot, the staff stated they were none???
I find this difficulty to believe a corporate gym like LA Fitness has no
security cameras. My wife trains at the same gym after work, now I have
reservations since she has no protection in the parking lot, now I'm
contemplating using a different gym because of this. However, I should has
realized how lack the staff and corporate office leadership is, in the
reflection of the disarray of the gym and lack of management in the gym as
well. I can clearly see this comes from the top down, poor leadership and
      poor management.

    • Urban Active at the Graceland Shopping Center in Columbus was recently taken over by LA Fitness. It was so much better as Urban Active. This gym's manager, Jeff, doesn't return customer calls and neither does their operations manager. They advertise services to new customers on walk throughs that the employees say LA FItness doesn't support. This is misleading to new customers who don't know this. Maybe less muscle and more humanity would make this a nice gym. If you're looking to join a gym where management is poor, customer service is a fail and employees sit around chatting with each other and looking at things on cell phones, then this could be the place for you.

    • The LA Fitness in Columbus, OH was better as Urban Active. La Fitness manager, Jeff, and their operations
manager don't return calls. Less muscle and more humanity could make this a nice gym. They advertise services on walkthroughs to new customers that their employees say the company doesn't support. This is misleading to new customers who don't know the extent of what they're in for until after they've signed that contract from the sales person who barely took long enough from their social media addiction. If you enjoy good customer service, a clean facility, managers who understand what the word "manager" means and real professionals, than this isn't the place for you.

    • I would like to know why women are discriminated in the spring texas gym. the majority of the people who use the tread mills and bikes are women but there is nothing but sports and news on every single TV in the place… I myself being a woman would like to watch something more intertaning then sportscasters and newscasters talking to each other… i have asked the gym and they say it is corporate policy.. not sure why.

    • I canceled my La Fitness membership in late August but was still being billed up to October. And La Fitness refused to reimburse me fully. I would not recommend this gym to anybody. Besides the fact that they have scammed me and other customers, their gym is unkempt and crowded. Once again, do not sign up to be a member of La Fitness. There are plenty of other gyms that offer the same amenities but aren't over crowded and a scam.

    • Its shocking to find out so many negative feedback from clients all over the country about how bad LA Fitness is operating. My husband and I joined the Quince Orchard, Maryland gym and have recently been hounded with multiple calls even 3x a day regarding rejected charges from our card. We tried other cards and still had the same problems. Customer service was so bad and unprofessional (except Samantha who tried to help us) esp. coming from the operation manager (Stacey) who was extremely rude on the phone. Come to find out that LA Fitness billing department was not entering the expiration date and security code on my card that's why my account always get a red flag thus the annoying calls every month. I can't believe personnel are not getting the right training as to perform a basic task of entering basic card information. We don't have to go through the unnecessary inconvenience, hassle and disrespect from this gym that's why we are cancelling our membership!

    • i go to LA Fitness and i have never had any problems i like how they run i just cant believe all the things i heard but i know my gym is the best

    • We are members of the LA Fitness in Levittown New York. I would agree that this is by far the worst gym I have ever belonged to. For starters, we were sold on the fact that every piece of Cardio had its own TV, what I didn't expect was that only 62 percent of the TV's actually work. Numerous complaints to William Campbell the opeations manager go unanswered or the ever popular we'll get it corrected. Most everynight he paper towels and soap are empty. Something needs to be done.

    • I am a member of la fitness flamingo gardens , Pembroke Pines Fl.The person designated to open on the weekends is frequently late. The managers do not manage anything. Weights are left on equipment and lying all over the floor. Anytime there is a problem or complaint, like when every tv is set on Spanish language or sports only, nothing is done. Broken equip. takes weeks to repair, sometimes not at all, like most of the stationary bikes upstairs. Membersm are slobs and have no respect for their club.
      Whats going on?????

    • I have been a member of LA Fitness for over 8 years. They never once called to set up personal training session that is to be free until this week. I went and the guy did a great job…then came the sell…I did not mind the $35 a session, but they wanted $149 enrollment fee…really I paid an enrollment fee when I joined and I paid for 8+ years and you can't waive the enrollment fee. I talked the salesrep into giving me the number of his boss..he was scared he would get in trouble, I called a Brain in Chicago..what a rude manager….I quit this fitness center and will tell everyone I see that they are a rip off…..

    • I was a member of the gym in Sterling VA. Watch out. There is a thief working or working out there. On 1/8/2014, he broke at least five lockers and stole people's wallets and clothes even with a pad LOCK on. My lock was pried open and wallet was stolen. The police officer told me this happened ever 3-4 months in this gym and the staff there refused to cooperate with the police. How can they run a business like this?

I confronted with the staff and he just shrugged and said "what you wanted me to do? Put a camera in the locker room?" Their inaction encourages this thief to come back again and again. Don't bring anything to the gym if you work out there. Horrible attitude of the staff. Tell everyone and demand a safer work-out environment!!

    • Oviedo, FL has gone down hill. They have no weights left, they actually roped off the area for the trainers to try and hoard all the equipment. All 5 balls, all the weighted balls, every single weight, from 5lb to 15lb weight, 3 bosi balls, Every single stand alone piece that the women use. The gym is filthy. No one re-racks. The 5 a.m. workout crowd comes in and it's like there was a party all night with towels, water bottles, 45lb plates all over, chewed gum on the cardio machines. Just nasty. Since our old Office manager left, Zunoni left and Rock our cleaning guy went to another place this place went to the birds! Sales crew sucks also! They do nothing!! Stay out of this place. Go to the Zoo or Planet Cheapness

    • Locker rooms in Trumbull Ct.are a big problem, last week a friend of mine and several other people their lockers were broking into, didn't think much of it and today i was a victim two with several others so may have to cancel my membership because is not safe can't leave it in the cars because cars are also being broken into.

    • I want to let LA Fitness know that thet Norwalk, CA. facility has put chains on the emergency exit door upstairs during business hours. This is an unsafe act and against the fire code but they continue to ignore any warnings from members. If a fire or another emergency were to break out everybody upstairs would be in serious trouble.

    • I left my keys at an establishment and someone found them and turned them to the office. The secretary in the office called LA Fitness/Landing in Seattle WA and someone there gave out my personal information. What if, someone not so nice would have picked up my keys and LA Fitness gave them my personal address?

This happened on May 19, 2014 at 7:30 pm

    • Thank you for your post. I am probably going to get the run around just trying to cancel my membership. I am having the same problems in Illinois.

    • To Whom It May Concern:

I am a member of your club at The Greene in Dayton, Ohio. I have not been in the club for some time so I was extremely disappointed to return today to find ALL of the barbells and disc weights removed from the fitness classroom as well as ALL of the 3-12 lb dumbbells under lock and key. I was told by a classmate that it was a tactic being used to get more customers to purchase Personal Training packages that would employ the restricted equipment. I contacted the manager and was told the barbells were removed because they were only used in Urban Active classes (not true in my experience) and the dumbbells were being stolen so they could only be used in classes.

I was an Urban Active customer for years-I stayed with your club because I like being able to have choices in how I want to work out and now I no longer have options that appeal to me. I understand theft can be an issue but you are preventing me from using equipment I have always used and that I pay for with my membership. And I feel it is discriminatory to cater to those who lift the heavier weights and use the main floor and to those who take classes. It appears that you are discriminating against the majority of your female customers who prefer the adjustable barbells and lighter dumbbells. And now there is a limited amount of free weights available when there are several customers using them to work out.

Since I am being restricted from using equipment my membership pays for and that I previously had access to, I am requesting a refund of my contracted membership fees so I can find a facility better equipped to meet my fitness needs.
–No response from LA Fitness (no surprise-guess time to contact BBB)…

    • Do not provide a credit card to anyone – especially LA Fitness! Once they have your card, they continue charging the account without permission. The corporate office will not remove the card from file, even though the account is paid in full. I was given personal training sessions as a gift – the person provided their card – paid for the sessions in full – NOW 8 months later they are still charging the person's card. PAY CASH – DO NOT PROVIDE YOUR CREDIT CARD NUMBER TO LA FITNESS – IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO GET A COMPETENT PERSON TO RESPOND, EVEN AT CORPORATE – THEIR NUMBER IS (800) 600-2540 –

    • We have belonged to the South Plainfield, NJ facility for many years. Our main interest is in swimming and they do not properly take care if their pool. One day its cold, the next day its hot, and another day it's cloudy. Sometimes it takes them many weeks to clear up a problem. The cloudy days are particularly troubling as it certainly isn't a sanitary environment. We have belonged to other pools in the past and never experienced anything like this. They need to train their staff on how to take care of the pool or choose a new maintenance company. When we complain the answer is "We're working on it." I thing we should be reimbursed for all those days that they're "Working on it." and maybe that would give them an incentive to work a little harder to maintain a clean pool with a proper temperature.

    • hate this place. I only have been there for one month and absolutely hate it. Forced me into a "free" personal training session, which the trainer called me 6 times begging me to pay for a personal trainer every month. And then got charged 78$ for that 15 min. Tried calling the manager there, left name and number but no one will answer me back. They all act clueless. WHAT A RIP OFF GYM, DO NOT JOIN!!!!!!!!!

    • The gyms are okay ( not overly clean I take my own stuff to wipe down the equipment ) the classes are alright ( nothing special and people who clearly cant get jobs and the "big places" ) What is really bad about this place is the sales pitch. It is so gross. Like a bunch of used car salesmen. To say nothing of the fact that there is ABSOLUTELY no customer service / relations / appreciation. NONE. They really dont give a crap about their clients. If you are looking for the Bank of America of gyms this is your spot. No frills. REALLY – no frill.s

    • Had my locked locker broken into at the Bowie, MD gym six days after signing. During my initial tour, the rep highlighted the top-notch security system on the property but once my items were stolen, they couldn't review the camera's without permission from corporate, and I was told that footage auto-deletes after 48-hours. When I called 48-hours later, the gym had no idea there had been a theft and said it wasn't likely he could review the tape (and that I definitely couldn't). When typing up the "Incident Report", the failed to ask, what time it occurred, what my bag looked like, or for any descriptions; I had to offer it up after the rep was "done" submitting the report. Over the next few days, as I called, for any new information (since they never called me, as promised), the became rude and even accusatory.

Even though my phone, iPod, wallet, and house & car keys were stolen, I'm still more disappointed in the lack of customer service, security and empathy by the staff. Some were better than other but when a manager simply says, "Sorry … bro" and another says, "Well, all I can say is I wouldn't buy that same lock again", it can put a person on edge, to say the least.

    • LA Fitness corporate has refused to fill out a document that states that they destroy a check sent to them. I fully explained my situation, my health status, and that the form stating that they had not cashed any check coming from my organization who pays for the membership and the trainer, needed to be filled out and have it notarized so that my organization can provide them with a new check. The corporate individual stated that upper management would not do that. WHY??? He stated LA Fitness doesn't do that.
So far being from me to speak badly about the gym I was a member of, but the corporation itself and the manager of the gym I was a member of do not care about you… They have a mindset it seems that they don't need your business, they act all high and mighty and I don't know how they have continued to be stay in business. Not all the employees and other managers have this mindset and for them I feel bad… I will do my best to terminate my membership and get out of this gym, if you would like to join them, do so at your risk. You can read the statements above are also all negative experiences at LA Fitness. I will also place my comments on Yelp in order to warn other potential members.

    • The GYM AT 142 AVE AND 8 ST IN Miami Fl is worse Gym of all the AC has not been working properly for the last 3 months. Talks to the manager are no good. No one do something about it. I CANCELLING MY MENBERSHIP AND MOST OF MY FRIENDS AND ALSO CANCELLING. I HOPE THAT SOME ONE FROM HEAD QUARTERS LOOK IN TO IT

    • So im sitting here trying to figure out how LA Fitness Duluth – Pleasant Hill Road defines coaching? Having Laqwacia and Cassandra just have their workout interrupted because they were, and i quote "counting their sets" while working out with my daughter who is 13 years old, as well as, and I quote again "giving each other motivation" and they were given the reason of "coaching." Well what do you tell a 13 year old when they walk into a gym? When you have a workout partner, is motivation not what you do for one another? Like, im seriously trying to figure out how you consider yourself a gym? If i cannot motivate someone or count my sets without breaking a rule and qualifying for the need for a "certified trainer" then what reason should a person workout..to just waste time sweating? Or was it just a few bad apples tonight who seemed to get their panties in a wad bc there was a 13yo in the gym putting them to shame….either way a few more memberships lost.

    • I opened a Membership for my daughter as a Birthday gift. I live in New York and She in California. I spoke to the GM, Miguel, very friendly, said No problem. I paid for 4 months up front on my Credit card. After the 4 months was up her membership would stop, again No problem. Months 5 and 6 they hit my credit card. When I called the gym to speak to Miguel he said he'd clear it up and get back to me. Guess what, Never happened. I called daily for 4 days, each time being ignored. My last attempt some Moron Named Manny answered the phone just saying Hello, obviously they new it was me and jacked me around. I was done at that point, I called Corporate. We shall see if they are true to do what they state.

    • I am an l.a. fitness member in long beach. I am n active member and I swim at the facility at least three days a week. There is a problem, however. Last month, my debit card vanished and I cancelled the card. When my billing didn't go through, I was almost immediately inundated with phone cells from all over: Washington, Reseda, Utah?? I keptntelling the callers that I was held up with work and that my card had disappeared and was cancelled, and that I'd pay when I went into the gym physically. They kept calling. They were more like rude collection agency people than people who worked for a gym that I regularly attend. The cells started within two days of my cancelled card being denied and I honestly could not leave my work schedule to go in an py. Not one of the callers noted that I gave them a clear date that I would pay. So I went in, ohysoically and paid, stating clearly that the card I was using to pay was a tempotempoorary card and would change when I got my permanent bank card in the mail. Apparently, the gym tired to charge me for November on the temp card and it failed. I still haven't received my permanent card from the bank, and this is a source of irritation for me…and today, November 6, thee day I am billed for tyhe gym, I got a phone call at 8am, stating that my temp card was declined. It was rude as hell. My gym membership is not a restaurant where I can skip out on a meal….demands of immediate payment on a Sunday morning when I am not at the gym are ridiculous. And yes, I am working until late Tuesday. I do in-home patient care for a second job, and I cannot leave once I start a 72 hour shift. And I am not willing to put mympatirnt in a wheelchair, drive to the gym, and pay my gym bill on a day that I do not intend to use the gym. I am an active gym member. I pay my 29 dollar dues. I do not appreciate being treated like a damn deadbeat a mere day after my temporary card was t declined when they tried to bill me. I am frustrated enough that I haven't received my bank card from the bank…is it necessarynto call me at work early on a Sunday morning to collect? Oh,and I certainly have the 29 bucks. I don't appreciate the rabid collections phone call policy. Or being treated like a deadbeat. I will update my info whenni come in to actually use the gym…and yes, i am a regular member….it's not like I don't come in three times a week. And iu always pay. Things like lost ATM cards happen. Don't you people have a grace period of like a day? Or is it fun to inundate regular customers with early morning phone calls at work? You are very close to losing me as a member period.

    • Mr. Welch & Executives,

I’m writing to you in concerns of LA Fitness in Greece, New York. I’ve been a member of this facility for a couple of years now and I have to say it’s been disappointing ever since I’ve joined. The facility is always dirty with trash on the floor and weights scattered everywhere. I know its the responsibly and etiquette of the person working out to re-rack their weights but I spend half my time putting weights away so I don’t trip over them. You never see the staff walking around to make sure the gym is picked up. They say “this is not our responsibility”. I myself am in the customer service business and if I ever said to one of my members “its not my responsibility” I’d reprimanded. When I asked the staff if they know when the cables will be fixed I get the response of “I don’t know”. I’m not sure if this is the business model of LA Fitness to not have staff pick up or at least make the facility look nice, but if its not I hope you change that.
The cable systems at LA Fitness Greece have not been fixed in over a month. I understand the best interest and safety of the members working out but myself and other members who I talk to are fed up with equipment always being broken and taking weeks to get the problem fixed. I’ve seen a drop in participation in this gym over the past month. I’m sure plenty of members have dropped their membership as well as I if problems do not get fixed.
As CEO and top executives of this corporation I hope you can step up and make sure all of your facility’s are up to date and accountable for your members.

    • They say they are "wheelchair" accessible BUT the horrible, arrogant, hostile and rude attitude of a particular "Trainer" in the Wickham Rd, Melbourne FL location quickly taught me they are NOT wheelchair friendly! Disgusting treatment to a quadriplegic young lady and her caregiver as he pulled the TRX rope from the caregivers hand and said HE had priority as a trainer! Then when the caregiver objected made sure in an empty area to make his client throw a medicine ball incredibly close to the paralyzed young lady as she was lying on the floor. He was a very tall young man with large afro hair and treated the 2 ladies so bad that the paralyzed young lady started to cry and be moved away from him and NEVER go back to that gym even though it is near to her home and convenient as life for her is very difficult to get to places. Shame on your staff, they shouldn't need lessons on how to treat the disabled! So WHAT if your wheelchair accessible if the attitude and treatment to a person in that wheelchair is the most disgusting I've ever seen to a disabled condition. SHAME ON YOU!

    • LA Fitness in Naples, FL on Golden Gate still has a broken AC unit and the new manager says he has tried everything. Seems it is out of his hands and says calling corporate gets nowhere. How can someone not just call an AC repair to fix it. It blows air but it doesn't blow cool air. They say, that it is "working" HELP. Members are so tried of this non response from corporate. Why can't they support the managers locally who are trying to do the right thing. Wonder if it comes out of their pocket???
