  • I emailed my complaint to Thrifty on April 20, 2021, asking for a refund because of the horrible service we received when we tried to pick up our car on April 9 at the Phoenix airport location. I received a reply stating that my email was received and that Thrifty would contact me after reviewing my complaint. It is now four weeks and I still have not heard from anyone at Thrifty. Are you reading these complaints, Corporate, because it seems like your company has absolutely no customer service to speak of. I am still waiting for a reply. I am contacting my credit card company today to dispute the bill and withhold payment.

  • I rented a car, like I have done for years, out of the Denver airport. I have always done toll by plate and been charged afterwards for the tolls and an administrative fee. I received by toll by plate bill from Thrifty for $23.90 in tolls and a $90 administrative fee???? Trying to contact anyone at the company is a joke as well. Please stay away from this company and its affiliates since this is how they treat their customers. Taking advantage of peoples funds is not a good way to go in 2021…..

  • Your company should be investigated for fraudulent practices. We reserved a car with Thrifty through Priceline for a two day rental estimated to cost $156. When we arrived at rental counter at Sacramento International Airport we were told our car wouldn't be available for 45 minutes or more which would have caused us to miss an important meeting. We were renting a full size car and asked if they had another lesser size car immediately available. The agent could only offer us an "upgrade" for another $110. This has happened to us before and is a scam on your client to force a higher payment. Having no choice we took the so called upgrade and our estimate jumped to $255. The final bill was sent to my email with a total cost of $529.61…for a two day rental!!!
    I tried calling your 7 day 6am to 7pm customer service line on Saturday, the da after our rental, and the message was "office closed". I've since tried calling 800 334-1705, 800 847-4389 remaining on hold forever. Hung up tried calling Thrifty Corp Office at 918 660-7700 with message this line no longer in service. What a disaster this company is.

    Never again. Our experience renting a car from Thrifty Car Rentals was negative from start to finish.

    We landed at Keflavik Airport, Iceland on June 5, 2019. It took 2 hours standing in line in freezing rain to get the shuttle from the airport to the car pick up point.

    When we finally arrived at Thrifty Car Rentals the car we were assigned was a sedan that was too small for our needs. We had reserved and paid for a 7-passenger van with plenty of room for two children under five years of age. We got what appeared to be a Citroen DS.

    Because the car was too small it did not accommodate a toddler seat – there was no room for the child’s legs between the toddler seat and the front seats.
    The pick-up point staff suggested we take the car to another location on the following day (a Sunday) and perhaps they would have a car that could accommodate 7 passengers. This was not an acceptable alternative for us.

    Two of our passengers had to stay home instead of enjoying this road trip. The car had a manual transmission. We had requested an automatic. There were big dents in the side of the car which were unsightly but also caused the door to be very difficult to slam shut. At the time of rental, the air pressure of all the tires was down over 25%; we had a gas station attendant fill the tires but the air pressure warning light never went off leaving us to believe there may have been more problems with the tires than just air.

    Next day at the drop off location the staff was unconcerned about the problems.

  • Hi, I received an email stating I earned a FREE DAY , I did step 1,2 and 3 but the price did not come off the rental price, I made 5 calls to customer service for help, I was transferred to web dept and the young Lady gave me a phone number of 239-301-7000, when I called that number the Lady said this is hertz and she could not help, I must call thrifty back , which I did and spoke to supervisor Joyce and she transferred to me to someone else, who then stated they will transfer me back to reservation to have point applied, customer service stated the point for free day can not be used on the vehicle I choose, on the email step 2 it states select a vehicle, does not stated which vehicle (car or SUV).I made over 5 calls and on phone over an hour , trying to get this resolve, with no help {I am a blue chip member),, it is a shame to call so many times and no one in customer service can help, just transfer you some where else,, can someone please call or contact me. thanks

  • I know that a lot of times the loudest voices are negative ones, but I want to take a moment to recognize one of your employees who went above and beyond in my time of need. I recently rented a Silver Jeep from Thrifty in May 16th, and returned it May 20th. I am a photographer and I had 10 photo sessions + a wedding that I shot while in DFW. I had put my SD cards in a safe place in the Jeep. When I returned the car I completely forgot to get them. It wasn’t til the next day at home in Orlando, FL that I remembered them. I was so stressed and overwhelmed trying to get ahold of someone directly. Without hesitation my sister said she would go back to the Thrifty where I rented to see if she could check the Jeep. That is when we both met your worker, Lawrence Idiata. Right away, we were impressed by his willingness to help. He went to lost & found of Thrifty & Hertz bcuz they cleaned the car. He located car & told us it had been rented, but said he would leave message for new person who rented it, and put hold so he could check it when it got returned. That all put my mind at ease. He was amazing. BUT where this guy went above & beyond is later that evening when the person who rented the Jeep found my SD cards & said he or my sister could come pick them up. Lawrence went & picked them up, and then called me telling me he had them! You can’t even begin to understand what this meant to me! My sister & I could not believe that a worker who doesn’t even know me could show so much kindness & go above and beyond to represent his organization. Lawrence most certainly deserves a raise or promotion or something. I have posted this to Facebook, and everyone is saying this guy deserves some recognition. He is one in a million, and you have a new loyal customer whenever I come into DFW. Thrifty is my choice from now on! Lawrence thank you for helping me in a way I couldn’t help myself, and literally doing it out of the kindness of your heart, expecting nothing in return. I am so moved by your act of kindness.

  • here do I start. walked into Thrifty/Dollar Car rental. On my phone it stated compact car 17.00 a day. i was needing it for 2 full days and return the 3rd. the lady at the counter INSISTED that I use their insurance when I told her I had my own. That lead them to holed 376.00 on my card. Signed because I was from out of town and needed a car to go around Houston for 3 days. When I arrived at my hotel which was about a hour away I looked at my receipt. My charge was 25.00 a day car rental and 31.00 a day insurance plus taxes 19.00 for one tax and about 10.00 for the other taxes. I have no clue what they were. total 146.00. What happened to 17.00 a day that I requested. Dollar was offering 17.00 which is what I asked for but was given Thrifty 25.00 a day. Terrance was my driver from the airport to Dollar and noticed that when he arrived back at Thrifty I was there already 4 hours later. What happened Mrs. Davis. I explained to him I was returning the car because the price they charged me was not what I agreed to. So to pick up the the car I was $146.00 to return it 4 hours later was $106.00. REALLY I was charged 26.00 for 4 hours which was more that they wrote me up for, 25.00 early return fee( since when you are charged a fee when you return something early because you are not satisfied seems backwards) 31.00 for insurance for 4 hours which was forced on me even though I told her I had insurance. I was livid. Not to include I had to pay Uber to take me back to my hotel and had to use it to get around the 3 days I was in Houston. Through all this I must say Terrance helped me out and was so understanding. He said let me see what I can do for you ms. Davis because I know you just picked the car up. He contacted his Supervisor and she took my charges down to 81.00. May not seem like a lot but it was the over and beyond that Terrance showed to do his best to make it right. These counter ladies at Houston Hobby need to have a little more curiosity and listen to the customers instead of being mean and trying to write up orders to line there pockets. I later realized that their commission come from selling the insurance that you should use if you want to, not be made to feel that its a must to have. After reading the reviews I recommend nobody to go to Houston Hobby Airport Thrifty. I'm not downing all Thrifty I'm just saying this one. After my complaint and reading the others it looks like nothing is being down about the bad ATTITUDES. Customer service is a BIG reflection on a business and it seem as if Thrifty is not concerned because people like me never read the comments we just need a car when we need one. Shame on Thrifty for not doing something about the people they hire. I again want to Thank Terrance for being concerned enough to share my issues with his supervisor and Thank her for doing something. Not only am I going to put this on this review site I'm also sending this to headquarters. For some reason I think this is being monitored by the same people who are making us customers frustrated not realizing we are the ones who are putting food on their table

  • We hired a car in South Africa East London Branch Airport on the 18th of November 2017 and returned it on the 20th of November 2017 we still have not received the holding deposit we have been calling ever since and we have been thrown from post to pillar I must say we are very much disappointed. Today I called the Head Office in Johannesburg and my call was transferred to the General Manager in East London Chanel Du Preez a very rude and unprofessional woman and has an appalling service how do you employ managers with rude and pathetic service I doubt she was trained very well.How do you tell a customer that they taking frustrations on her WOW and she is going to call my fiancée who ever the person is. Can my complaint get immediate attention as my bank card is not working since my deposit was held.

  • We want to express our thanks to the thrifty location at the fort lauderdale airport this past Monday Nov. 6th around noon for helping to retrieve a backpack after we returned our car. Both the station manager and the personnel there were GREAT. Sincerely, the orange backpack family.

  • So I paid all my tolls in Florida by cash, and didn’t get a receipt- because it was a dollar here, a dollar there— and imagine to my surprise, getting a letter that I “failed” to pay the very last toll, before returning my car to the Orlando airport. This was totally false— I would never “run” a toll booth. But, what proof did I have?

    The letter informed me I would be charged for the toll, plus a $15 processing charge. It would be put on the same credit card is used to pay for the car.

    Since I had no proof that I’d paid the toll, how could I fight it? So, I didn’t fight it. Just paid. But guess what? I’ve booked a car since then, and when I had the choice of Thrifty or one other car company, I specifically excluded Thrifty from who I would ever rent from, ever again.

    So, Thrifty has their $15. But they’ve lost a customer forever.

  • BASED UPON THESE COMMENTS, THIER IS A LOT OF BAIT AND SWITCH TAKING PLACE WITH THRIFTY. A $9.99 refueling charge for gas that sells for $2.50 per gallon. Shame on you Thrifty!!

  • In August 2016 I reserved a car with Thrifty for two weeks for $238. I reserved it online and I paid for it with my credit card. Subsequently, an additional charge of $505 from a third party called "Cartrawler" appeared on my credit card bill purportedly for handling the reservation. I was never informed of their involvement — not at the time I made the reservation not when I picked up the car, and not when I returned the car. This is a material nondisclosure since I would never have rented the car had I known I was going to be scammed. Beware of this outfit. They are located in Ireland and probably out of reach of U.S. consumer protection agencies. Their client, Thrifty, however, is a party to this and I will be pursuing the matter with the appropriate agencies.

  • Run away as fast as you can. DO NOT RENT FROM THRIFTY. They will rob you with every chance/excuse they can find. 3 months after my rental they are still sending me bills for toll charges with added fees. This should have been settled long ago. I couldn't even rent the car I had signed up for because they said something was wrong with it. They gave me a car that I had so many problems with. I will never rent from them again. I have rented with many different companies and never had these problems before. Save yourself the hassle that will follow and rent somewhere else.

  • DO NOT RENT FROM THIS COMPANY. They are rude and will rip you off any chance they get. No customer service. Tried to call corporate. Got two mailboxes which were not accepting messages. Then disconnected. Shady COMPANY.

  • Thrifty car rental in Kauai- Lehui Airport showed documents claiming we agreed to an upgrade. The documents has signatures of my wife that doesn't match, and I have the copies of it which I did show to legal authorities where I purchased flight package from Travelocity with car rental included. Thrifty debited $834.00 from wife's bank account, and then tried to cover it up by refunding my wife, on Aug. 2 with $145.83 return to her bank account, then on Aug. 11 another refund of $218.75 to wife's bank account, totals $364.58 which is still leaves $469.00 unaccounted for. I, her husband paid for the entire package with my bank card which includes car rental from Thrifty, unless this problem can be solved, I will be force to see help from legal authorities, Louis & Ann Martin Jr. 210-974-1099, contact me if yoiu are willing to closed and fix this matter. Thank you

  • I have booked twice with Thrifty in Cozumel. Both times when I have returned my credit card was compromised. Funny thing is it only happens after my credit card is used there and on this trip was only used there. Here is how it happened. The run the card to get the authrozation of 2500.00 for the deposit. They then run it again for the charge, but they in print the card!!!!. that is illegal with any and all credit card companies in the U.S or wherever. I only used my card for that transaction and that transaction only. I used a different card for all other purposes. I call the corporate office and they act as though they care right!!!!! Don't give this company another chance to take advantage of you or your money. They don't care. Just read the other comments above.

  • We should have checked these comments out prior to renting but, unfortunately, did not and have had the same experiences as others. Rented on line, not being told it was through a foreign company, so were charged additional foreign transaction fees by our credit card company. Reserved a Mustang (as pictured) or something similar but was told at pick up that they don't even have those. What would have been a good price turned out to be ridiculous due to the overcharging. The agent even lied about the insurance available which resulted in being charged for road service which we never would have purchased. In addition to that they lead you to believe you need to purchase the toll card through them which was not true and in the end we feel totally ripped off and will NEVER rent through them again. Hopefully they will go out of business due to their corrupt and unethical practices. Wasted time on the phone with their "customer service" but got nowhere. It is by far the worst car rental experience we have ever had.

  • TOLL BOOTH SCAM AT DENVER AIRPORT! BEWARE OF THRIFTY… They told me nothing about Tolls around that airport that are unavoidable. There is no way to pay them manually at toll gates. As a result for $7.90 worth of tolls that were billed to Thrifty they charged me $45.00 in Administrative Fees. After calling the 3rd Party Company that handles this B.S. for them, they could offer no answers except to forward me to this company's B.S. Customer Service, which is a system meant to thwart any complaints, in hopes that you just go away. Yes, they will get this money, they can rest assured of that. But, it will be the last they ever get from me until I receive an apology and see that they have changed their policy regarding this Toll Booth Scam.   • I am a long-time renter from Thrifty and would like to know why the CS people that answer the reservation lines cannot speak clear and understandable American-English – being that this is the USA. For the second time in 7-10 days I called the CS number only to speak to a lady that tried to speak but could not be understood. Is there not some minimum criteria for CS staff?
    Also, I receive two advertising e-mails almost daily from Thrifty. One is enough.
    I would appreciate receiving contact to discuss both issues. I assume you can find me in your system – Richard Schoenfeld.

  • Brad Pairing, the GM of the Tulsa airport location, is a sorry excuse of a manager because he told us we could rent a car from another car provider if we didn't like the way he was talking to us. Then he threatened to cancel our booking w/o our permission. He began speaking to us very rudely and condescending right from the moment we stepped up to the counter. As a consumer, I will never use Thrifty / Dollar rental company again and as a TRAVEL AGENT, I will never subject my clients to such rude service.

    I booked a car rental to San Jose for 11/8-11/15 back in September. I called and spoke to a representative in San Jose. I requested liability insurance and was told $8.99 and I would be charged $99.43 for the week once I picked up my car. I was given the above confirmation and the price by phone. I did not reserve the car online, as this is what I was told when I picked up the car. I even received by confirmation by Jael Mora G.

    This was not the case once I arrived. I was charged $401.22. I was told when I returned the car by David, the manager that he would do something about it since I was already charged the $401.22. When I returned the car he was not there and there was no manager. I am filling a dispute. I was over charged once I arrived in Costa Rica, San Jose.

  • Debra is one of the rudest agents I have EVER spoken to. She chewed gum in my ear, spoke over me and was EXTREMELY argumentative. I had already spoken to all the people she tried to push me off on to get answers and argued about that information as well. Note to all – DO NOT RENT FROM THRIFTY OR DOLLAR, spend more money and go with a reputable company.

  • I just received very poor customer service from Thrifty. I have been on the phones passed around for 2 hours, blindly. I called the Corporate office number spoke to a person who said she was an executive and received equally unprofessional service. This is very disheartening.

  • Every person renting from Thrifty should check their rental agreements. I was charge $15 administrative fee for a $1.00 toll which was charged to my rental license plate. This is insane! Actually I was charge $60, for four tolls, totalling $4.50. What the heck are these administrative fees for? I am outraged over this! Thrifty Corporate needs to look at these charges which are enforced. It's not acceptable to charge a fee of $15.00 for something a little as a toll charge of $1.00 .

  • Returned a car on August 23. Was charged the correct amount of $146.68 utilizing a coupon for a free rental day on August 24. On Sept. 4 you charged me another $215.86 for the SAME rental (the original rental agreement amount before the coupon was applied. I have been placed on hold, sent to different departments have been placed on hold yet again and then finally getting to speak with an individual who promised to take care of the issue and get back to me. I still have not heard anything from anyone in your company and have still NOT received the credit of $215.86 back. I'm furious as I've invested several HOURS on permanent hold with your company all to NO AVAIL. I am a loyal Blue Chip Member and have been renting your vehicles for over 6 years. I cannot believe your customer service team could be so incompetent as to help a client such as myself or anyone else for that matter. YOU GUYS NEED WORK. I have four pending reservations with Thrifty over the next two months. I'm seriously considering taking my business elsewhere.

  • First may I say I have used Thrifty for years and have been pleased in the past. However, I am no longer 30 years old and do not need (nor want) to talk to an agent in the Philippines. Don't need the long-distance sound nor the sometimes tortured English. Nor the (3) times this morning waiting 15+ minutes each time to talk to a representative about changing my Blue Chip # and password. Sounds like Thrifty needs to hire more American agents located here in the U.S. — to dispense with the waiting, the poor connections, and the accents. I will say the foreigners are very polite, more so than "Yolanda" who didn't display proper customer service and hung up on a frustrated (loyal) customer because she couldn't be bothered to listen to my complaints. BTW, it's appearing now, that to change a password previously held for years in response to new Blue Chip numbers, one must include a "#" in the password. What? Why weren't we informed of these new restrictions? And that was what caused, I truly believe, all the frustration — we weren't given the fact that Thrifty wanted at least 1 number included in a new password. Simple as that! One small point that caused much frustration from this end. Give me real people to talk to instead of recordings, voices telling me to "hang on." When I became connected to Dennis in Corporate HR, his politeness and professionalism calmed me immediately. He is a model for all agents, supervisors, and indeed all Thrifty employees!

  • I booked a rental for my father whom is 83 years old at the Dallas Love Field airport. Upon arrival at the counter the representative asked my father for a credit card. My father responded he had a debit card and was informed Thrifty does NOT except debit cards and advised him to go to ALAMO car rental. I read the policy and it clearly states DEBIT CARDS ARE ACCEPTED. My father went to ALAMO and paid twice the amount for a rental due to last minute pick up with no reservation. I clearly believe this was a BAIT AND SWITCH at this location and due to my father being an elderly person. I have been a loyal customer with THRIFTY for years and feel this was totally unprofessional. I contacted Thrifty via the telephone and was transferred numerous times with no one able to assist. I then attempted to send a complaint via the email site and consistently received an error message. I am disappointed in what I thought was a professional company to treat elderly people in this manner and more disappointed in the lack of a structure to complain about it.

  • As frequent customers, we are appalled at the lack of professionalism & efficiency of our rental agreement. After being inconvenience with a TWO hour wait for a reserved rental vehicle, we were also overcharged for the rental as well. On 7/26/2015, We contacted corporate as advised regarding this issue and Cherise informed us that a credit of $166 was issued on 7/26 and that it would take 3 to 5 days to process. We never received the credit. On 8/4/15, my wife contacted Jett(Jeanette), a corporate consumer response rep, to inquire about the credit. Jett advised that it was noted in the system but never sent to processing!! Jett was EXTREMELY unprofessional and blatantly RUDE! She exemplified POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE in handling the situation. Her dialogue was condescending and unapologetic about our inconvenience. Jett muted the conversation as my wife expressed disappointment of her unprofessional demeanor. At that point, we asked to speak to a supervisor or manager in which we were advised that she was corporate and refused to transfer the call to someone of authority by the name of Tracey. Employees like JETT OR JEANETTE are INCOMPETENT and a DISSERVICE to Thrifty with a lack of integrity & an unprofessional demeanor. We advised her that the call was being recorded and she continued to provide poor customer service. After providing my email address to her as requested, she NEVER emailed the case ID information as she stated she would. Dalesha @corporate immediately sent the email & transferred me to Tracey's voicemail after having contact corporate again after the disturbing call with Jett. Her lack of efficiency & competency was duly noted as she NEVER sent the credit request for processing! With this said, we will NOT continue to use THRIFTY for personal or business use in the future due to the overall poor customer service, lack of efficiency & poorly organized infrastructure!
