How to Submit a Medtronic Product or Service Complaint

  1. Identify the exact product or therapy involved.
  2. Locate the model, serial or device information without publishing it publicly.
  3. Contact the Patient Services team assigned to that product.
  4. Explain the issue factually and in chronological order.
  5. Describe any error message, alarm or observed malfunction.
  6. Ask for a complaint, case or reference number.
  7. Record any troubleshooting instructions provided.
  8. Request written return or replacement instructions when applicable.
  9. Keep the product and packaging unless instructed otherwise.
  10. Follow up using the same case number.

Patients should also notify the treating healthcare professional when a product problem may affect therapy or health.

Information to Have Before Contacting Medtronic

  • Product or therapy name
  • Model number
  • Serial number, provided privately
  • Implant or purchase date
  • Treating clinic or healthcare professional
  • Error message, alarm or indicator-light pattern
  • Date and time the issue occurred
  • Steps already taken
  • Existing case number
  • Warranty or replacement information
  • The specific assistance being requested

Do not publish device serial numbers, patient ID cards, account information, pump settings, health records or physician contact details in a review.

Medical Emergencies and Urgent Device Concerns

Medtronic’s website contact forms and corporate office are not emergency services. Call 911 for a potentially life-threatening condition.

Contact a healthcare professional promptly if:

  • An implanted device produces an unexpected alert.
  • An insulin pump stops delivering insulin.
  • A drug pump appears to malfunction.
  • A patient experiences severe pain, fainting, breathing difficulty or neurological symptoms.
  • A wound or implant site appears infected.
  • A device is damaged during an accident.
  • A clinician has instructed the patient to seek immediate care.

Do not delay medical care while waiting for corporate Customer Care to respond.

Medtronic Product Advisories and Recalls

Medtronic maintains official product-advisory and performance resources. Notices may contain:

  • Affected product names
  • Model or lot information
  • Description of the concern
  • Potential patient or user risks
  • Instructions for healthcare professionals
  • Instructions for patients
  • Replacement, inspection or monitoring steps

Do not stop using, reprogram, disconnect or remove a medical device solely because a similar product appears in a notice. Verify the exact model and follow the instructions from Medtronic and the treating healthcare professional.

Returning a Medtronic Product

Contact the appropriate Patient or Customer Services team before returning an external device. Depending on the product, Medtronic may provide authorization, a prepaid shipping label or a return box.

Examples of external products include:

  • CareLink remote monitors
  • Programmers
  • Insulin pumps
  • Continuous glucose monitoring equipment
  • New or unused products

Do not mail an external device directly to operational headquarters unless Medtronic provides written instructions.

Returning an Explanted Device

A device removed from inside the body must be handled as a biohazard. Medtronic provides a return kit and shipping instructions for qualifying explanted products.

Examples may include:

  • Pacemakers
  • Defibrillators
  • Cardiac leads
  • Insertable cardiac monitors
  • Neurostimulators
  • Drug pumps
  • Catheters

Patients should not personally package or mail an explanted medical device without instructions from the healthcare facility and Medtronic.

Warranty and Replacement Questions

Warranty and replacement eligibility depend on the product, purchase or implant date, warranty terms, device condition, applicable agreement and investigation findings.

Ask Patient Services to confirm:

  • Whether the product is registered
  • Whether the product remains under warranty
  • Whether troubleshooting is required
  • Whether the product must be returned
  • Whether a temporary or permanent replacement is available
  • Who pays shipping or related costs
  • Whether a healthcare professional must participate

A customer-service representative may need to complete troubleshooting or obtain technical information before authorizing a replacement.

Medtronic Patient ID Cards

Medtronic recommends that patients with qualifying implanted devices carry an identification card. The card can help identify the device in an emergency and provides Medtronic contact information.

Qualifying devices may include:

  • Pacemakers
  • Defibrillators
  • Cardiac leads
  • Neurostimulators
  • Implanted drug pumps
  • Endovascular stents
  • Heart valves, rings or bands

The official registration process may request highly sensitive identifying information. Submit it only through Medtronic’s verified secure service and never in a public review.

MRI and Medical Procedure Questions

Some Medtronic devices are eligible for MRI scanning only under specific conditions. Device model, leads, implant configuration, scanner type and programming can affect eligibility.

  1. Inform the imaging facility about every implanted medical device.
  2. Present the device ID card when available.
  3. Provide the exact model and lead information.
  4. Ask the treating specialist whether device programming is required.
  5. Confirm that the imaging facility has reviewed the current Medtronic MRI conditions.

Do not assume that a device is MRI safe based only on its brand name or appearance.

Medtronic Device Cybersecurity

Patients should follow Medtronic’s current product-security instructions and use only authorized software, applications, programmers and accessories.

  • Install updates provided through verified Medtronic channels.
  • Do not connect a device or monitor to untrusted equipment.
  • Do not share account credentials or verification codes.
  • Be cautious of unexpected calls claiming that immediate remote access is required.
  • Report suspected product-security concerns through Medtronic’s official support system.
  • Contact the treating clinic before changing remote-monitoring arrangements.

Medtronic Declining Customer Service

February 3, 2025

Medtronic, The Declining Customer Service for Medtronic. I have been wearing a Medtronic device for the past 14 years and I also have a 16 year old son who also wears their pump. Over the years Medtronic has had a wonderful team of customer service people who would listen and attempt to rectify any issues with extreme promptness. Most recently I have experienced an extreme decline in the attentive service they once had. Rather than try to assist I have experienced extreme rude and argumentative representatives. When attempting to explain issues I have been met with over talking as if they were more content upon reading me instructions from a manual rather than listening to the problems at hand. If my product is to be covered under warranty for a specified period of time and is not operating properly please do not tell me I cannot replace a defective device at my request. The decline in customer service is alarming and there are a number of different companies now offering similar devices. I wanted all to be aware that the customer service to individuals who use products such as these needs to be more effective in reassuring that my health and the health of my son is not on the line.
