How to Make a Complaint to Halfords

Halfords directs customers to its Customer Support team by telephone or live chat. When a complaint is opened, the company says it will provide a unique reference number and route the complaint to the appropriate person or department if the first adviser cannot resolve it.

  1. Start with the relevant location: For a store, garage, fitting, MOT, tyre, bike-service, or Mobile Expert concern, identify the location or appointment connected to the problem.
  2. Contact Customer Support: Call 0330 135 9779 or use live chat through the official contact page.
  3. Request a complaint reference: Record the unique reference number supplied by Halfords.
  4. Provide supporting information: Include the store or garage, order or booking number, receipt, date, vehicle or bicycle details, photographs, and the resolution requested.
  5. Ask for escalation: If the first adviser cannot resolve the issue, ask for the case to be referred to the appropriate manager or specialist team.
  6. Keep a written timeline: Record each contact date, the department contacted, the response received, and any promised follow-up date.

Halfords Autocentre Repair and MOT Complaints

If you are dissatisfied with work performed on your vehicle, Halfords directs customers to contact the garage that completed the repair. The garage can arrange an inspection and advise on the next steps.

Halfords states that its repairs carry a two-year or 24,000-mile quality guarantee. Customers seeking help under that guarantee should retain:

  • The invoice, booking confirmation, and payment receipt
  • The garage location and service date
  • The vehicle registration, make, model, and current mileage
  • A description of the original work and the current problem
  • Photographs, warning-light information, or diagnostic reports
  • Details of any subsequent inspection or emergency repair
  • Customer-service and complaint reference numbers
Important: If you believe previous work caused a new mechanical or safety problem, contact the original garage promptly. Unless the vehicle requires emergency work, ask whether Halfords wants to inspect it before another garage completes repairs. Do not drive a vehicle that may be unsafe.

Alternative Dispute Resolution for Halfords Complaints

If Halfords completes its internal complaint process and confirms in writing that it cannot settle the dispute, the company provides Alternative Dispute Resolution information for eligible complaints.

  • Halfords Limited retail complaints: Halfords identifies the London Arbitration Centre as an available ADR provider after its internal process is exhausted.
  • Halfords Autocentres complaints: Halfords Autocentres identifies the National Conciliation Service as its dispute-resolution provider.
  • Financial products or services: Some eligible complaints may be referred to the Financial Ombudsman Service after the internal financial complaint procedure.

Review the official Halfords ADR guidance before submitting a dispute because eligibility and procedures depend on the product, service, and company involved.

Halfords Motoring Club Cancellation and Auto-Renewal

Halfords Motoring Club Premium memberships have a minimum term and automatically renew unless the renewal is stopped in accordance with the membership rules.

  • Members have a 14-day cooling-off period, provided no membership benefits have been used.
  • After the cooling-off period, cancellation generally takes effect at the end of the first 12-month term.
  • Halfords says it will email members approximately 30 days before renewal.
  • Members within 30 days of renewal can use the self-service renewal-management option.
  • If renewal is less than 48 hours away, Halfords recommends calling 0330 135 9779, option 1, or using Motoring Club live chat.

Motoring Club members can access dedicated chat by logging into their Halfords account, opening Rewards & Benefits, and selecting Chat with an Expert.

Auto-renewal warning: Do not assume that deleting an account, removing an app, or stopping use of the benefits cancels a paid Motoring Club membership. Complete the official cancellation or renewal-management process and retain the confirmation.

Full instructions are available on the official Motoring Club cancellation page.

Halfords Orders, Returns, and Refunds

Halfords states that eligible change-of-mind purchases can generally be returned within 30 days. Products must be unused, clean, in their original packaging, and accompanied by proof of purchase. Terms and exclusions apply.

  • Store purchases: Eligible products may generally be returned to a Halfords store.
  • Online purchases: Eligible orders may be returned to a store or sent to the distribution centre.
  • Click & Collect cancellation: Check the order status using the order email and order number.
  • Home-delivery cancellation: Contact Halfords quickly; cancellation may not be possible once dispatch has progressed.
  • Refund timing: Processing time varies according to the payment method and return route.

March 1, 2025

Halfords, On 28-02- 2025 I went to Mansfield Halfords To bye some wheel trims, not being sure of how they work, I went to the counter to aske for advice as I wanted them fitted and to make sure I had the right ones, The first sign all was not good was the chap who was being served was told by your employee. that who knew when his order would come and how long is a piece of string?. From then on he was dismisive of me rude and just did not want to be bothered with doing his jo all I wanted was some advice which his manager eventually gave me his attitude was terrible, I will not bother to shop in any of your stores again and will advise anyone else to avoid like the plague.
