Boots Disappointing Customer Experience

Boots, I ordered aftershave (£73) online from Boots as a gift for my son’s birthday. When the package arrived, the aftershave was not in the box. The box was undamaged and showed no signs of tampering—it simply appears the item was never packed. I contacted Customer Services, but they insisted the item had been packed and refused to send a replacement or issue a refund. I explained the situation again and even offered to send photos of the undamaged box, but the response remained the same: “It was packed, so there’s nothing we can do.” Feeling accused of dishonesty, I wrote to Sebastian James, the CEO, hoping for a more thoughtful response. Unfortunately, I received the same dismissive reply, implying I was at fault. I also tried to make a formal complaint, but Boots refused to engage with the process or provide a copy of their policy for handling such complaints. After reading other reviews on Trustpilot, I realized this isn’t an isolated incident. Many customers report similar experiences with missing items and being treated as if they’re dishonest. It’s disheartening to see a brand with a 175-year history, one many of us have trusted, develop such a poor reputation. With a 76% 1-star rating on Trustpilot and only 15% 5-star ratings, it’s clear something has gone wrong. Rather than spending on flashy advertising campaigns, perhaps Boots should focus on improving the customer experience. Losing £73 feels like being scammed by a company I once trusted. Is this part of their cost-saving measures—charging for items never delivered? It’s deeply frustrating and disappointing.

Boots, your Christmas advertising campaign seems like a missed opportunity to connect with a wide audience. I noticed that the portrayal of characters feels heavily focused on diversity themes, which doesn’t resonate with everyone. A more traditional approach, perhaps showcasing a family-centered holiday scene, might appeal to a broader audience. As it stands, I’ll be skipping Boots this season.
