Food Safety and Allergy Concerns

Immediately notify the restaurant manager about an undeclared allergen, suspected contamination, sanitation problem, or possible foodborne illness. Keep the receipt and note everything eaten by each affected person.

Pizza Ranch Company History

Pizza Ranch was founded by Adrie Groeneweg in Hull, Iowa, in 1981. Groeneweg was 19 when the first restaurant welcomed guests on December 21, 1981. A second restaurant opened in Orange City in 1983, and the first franchised location opened in Mountain Lake, Minnesota, in 1984.

The company moved into its Orange City Restaurant Support Center in 2007 after outgrowing its original corporate location in Hull. Pizza Ranch remains family-owned and operated, with Groeneweg serving as president and founder.

Pizza Ranch has grown to more than 220 restaurants across the Midwest and other parts of the United States. The system consists primarily of independently operated franchises supported by Pizza Ranch, Inc.

  • Crispy Ranch Chicken and chicken tenders
  • Traditional and boneless wings
  • Salad bar, vegetables, and homestyle sides
  • Desserts, including Cactus Bread and dessert pizza

Pizza Ranch Franchise and Employment Information

Many Pizza Ranch restaurants are independently owned and operated by franchisees. Consequently, restaurant employees may work for the local franchise company rather than Pizza Ranch, Inc.

Applicants can search the Pizza Ranch careers website for restaurant management, front-of-house, kitchen, and Support Center positions. Employees with payroll, scheduling, benefits, disciplinary, or employment-record questions should begin with their restaurant manager or franchise employer.

Pizza Ranch Complaints and Customer Reviews

Reader-submitted comments on this page describe experiences that differ by restaurant. Reported topics include:

  • Problems with group reservations and community-room seating
  • Requests for refunds after reservation or service problems
  • Availability of discounted Pizza Ranch gift cards through outside retailers
  • Requests for Pizza Ranch to open in additional communities
  • Compliments regarding food, salad bars, and restaurant service

These comments represent individual experiences and are not independently verified. Because most Pizza Ranch locations are franchised, a complaint involving one restaurant may not represent the company’s other locations or franchise operators.

Pizza Ranch Pella IA Disappointing Experience

June 6, 2025

Pizza Ranch, Manager Amy from Pella Iowa Pizza Ranch. Friday the 29th. I usually go in and eat. But I was having a yard sale that weekend and ordered to come to me. The manager Amy said it would take 20 to 30 min. Ok. I actually called in twice. To confirm my address. After 45 min they had not showed up yet. So I called to find out where they were. She said they came and knocked on the door and no one showed up. I said how can they knock on the door when I was outside waiting for them. She was really rude. She called me a liar. I called the night manager he said I know who you are, let’s make this right for you. Come in Saturday. Will I couldn’t do that. We’ll we came in today the same manager was working. I had at least 5 people behind me and she wanted to call me a liar again. She was rude and loud. In front of her customers. Now me and a friend comes in at least once a week. She either has to give me an apology an d my $53 dollars back or 4 free buffets.

Pizza Ranch Gift Card Issue Wichita KS

February 23, 2025

Pizza Ranch, Sam’s Club stopped offering gift cards for Pizza Ranch about 6 months ago. I thought this was a Wichita KS problem, but I checked the Sam’s Clubs in Ankeny IA and Woodbury MN. None of the Sam’s had the pay $39.xx and get $50 gift cards for sale. Those are a good deal, and I’m certain they generated a lot of business here in Wichita. It was the best value gift card Sam’s offered. I’d like to see the cards returned for sale, even if you raise the price a couple of dollars, say $43 for $50. Everything, including your buffet is getting more expensive. The cards make it more attractive for a large group to make a “Ranch Run.” Without the cards, we don’t go as often. Pizza has a lot of flour (a relatively cheap ingredient) in it and I recognize there is more waste at a buffet than most restaurants, so having the cards makes going more frequently doable.

Pizza Ranch Burlington IA Disappointing

February 7, 2025

Pizza Ranch, I made a reservation for 50 people at the Burlington, Iowa Pizza Ranch for after my Father’s Visitation. However, when we arrived, we were told there was no such reservation—despite having proof that it was made. To make matters worse, an employee closed off half the reserved room, leaving many of our guests without seating, even though they had paid for their meals. When we explained the situation, the employee insisted the space wasn’t reserved, despite clear evidence that it was. The lack of professionalism from both the employee and the manager was unacceptable. They should be held accountable, and everyone in our party deserves a full refund for the poor service we received.
