To Whom It May Concern,
First let me start by saying that I have been a resident at Heron Landing in Lauderhill, Fl. three times. I have left and returned because I absolutely loved that property. The first two move-ins were when I was a single mother raising a teenager. This third move-in happened when I was pregnant and newly married. With that being said, I must express my disappointment after this third and final move-out.
On March 15, 2018, our lease has ended and we moved out. We cleaned the apartment, handed in our keys, wrote down our forwarding address and paid the final water bill. On April 25, 2018, my husband and I were surprised to see the certified mail from Heron Landing stating that the counters were damaged and that our $99 security deposited would not be refunded and they were charging us and extra $100.87. What? As I looked on the envelope of the certified mail, I noticed a few discrepancies. First, the letter from Heron Landing was dated March 16, 2018, but the postage stamp was dated March 30, 2018. Second, the forwarding address label was dated April 23, 2018 and we officially received it April 25, 20018. I wrote an email stating the discrepancies the next morning and my husband went to the office in person. He asked to see the damage either in person or by pictures. The maintenance supervisor (Antioch) claimed that there was damage and he had pictures. So, naturally, my husband asked to see them. But he said he could not find them at the moment and that he would need to look in his phone for them. I received those pictures on May 11, 2018. It took 2 weeks for the photos to be forwarded to me. How do I know they are authentic? Why 2 weeks from when I asked for them? From April 26, 2018 to May 11, 2018, I have called and emailed Kathy and Eliane. The phone was never picked up and my calls were not returned. My email responses were: that my 1st email was received, my husband came to visit and the forwarded pictures.
In addition to all this, On May 9, 2018 we received another letter from collections. Already? I just received the certified mail on April 25. The collections letter states that the $100.87 was overdue. So I called the collections agency and asked them when was my “case” turned over to them. Mr. Matthews stated that on March 24, 2018, our “case” was turned over to them. That is 9 days after we moved out! Remember the postage stamp was dated March 30, 2018.
In addition to trying to contact us by mail, we can also be reached by phone and by email. Heron Landing did not use either of the latter. I have been an excellent tenant at Heron Landing, especially when it came to paying rent on time. I feel that we have been treated unfairly and we don’t think that our credit should suffer because proper procedures were not done correctly.
Thank you for your time,
