What’s Happened to JoAnns?

Anchorage, AK store looks the same as the one in Pallup, WA with boxes stacked everywhere and several empty or near empty shelves. I’ve heard the employees’ hours have been reduced to part-time to save money. No wonder they have a big turnover. Have you checked out the cost of living in Alaska? It’s one of the highest. And those boxes are delivered weekly but there are not enough employees to empty them. It’s all they can do to keep up with customers. They are all pleasant but too often overworked. I would hate to see this store close because many people rely on it. By the way, the two stars are for the employees who, despite the working conditions, remain loyal.

I’m sure you have gotten similar feedback from customers (at least I hope so). As a former employee of 4 years who loved working at JoAnns in Puyallup, (I had to resign due to medical issues) I was extremely impressed by the shape the store was in. See attached photos. I was only able to attach 5 photos, but I have 31 more if you’d like to see them. I visited the store on 11/18/23 @10:30am-11:30 am. Your app said “out of stock” on a lot of items so I went to the store & lots of the shelves were empty too. However, what I was looking for was on the shelf (which was surprising due to the amount of freight that was stacked around the store). There were boxes EVERYWHERE with some blocking aisles (we weren’t allowed to block aisles), they were stacked halfway to the ceiling (we were only allowed to stack 2-3 high). With all the boxes on the floor, the back room must be completely packed! These boxes on the floor create many safety issues as well. We were not allowed to leave boxes, carts of fixtures, etc. on the floor if nobody was going to work it THAT day. We had to be put in the back room, out of the way, until the next day. If customers were to use a mobility cart they wouldn’t be able to get around the store (I barely got around using their small carts). There was only 1 cutter, 1 cashier, maybe a manager & 1 other employee (I think they were doing BOPIS) We had to do go-backs EVERY night! I went back a week later and it wasn’t much better. I would hate to see this store close. They have better selections & prices on yarn (my main craft is crocheting) than Michaels & Hobby Lobby. And better coupons. I also shop at JoAnn for things I need for other projects.

Shopping online experience. I ordered 2 wash away wonder tapes 25 yes @ 11.99 ea. You gave me 20% disc. Total was $20. something. But when I went to check out I was only getting qty of 1 for the same price!! And went on to say I was saving $20.88! Something is wrong. Canceled order.

JoAnn, Employees unwilling to cooperate. I was trying to find things in your section that holds bra extender and was asking two female staff (One I suspect was the manager) for help when a young man walked up. I waited for him to leave and he did not and I said excuse me could you please go away. The females said he works here too. At 83 I do not wish to talk about things I need for my bra to a young man. I asked him again if he would mind leaving and he just didn’t stare at me and would not leave. So I tried finding things myself at no avail and so I left and I’ll order them online with Amazon. The section for Bra extenders and other items has been shrunk to about a 12 inch wide section. It was taking three people to take yarn out of the box. Ridiculous! I did not feel like like a valued customer.

JoAnn, Rancho Cucamonga, California Location. JoAnn, Zero Rating. This store recently opened and pleased to see the location closer to my home. What a disappointment, the most disorganized store I have ever been in, bolts of fabric all over the place, lack of product line in all departments. Stacked boxes and lack of employee assistance. I will be reaching out to OSHA to numerous safety violations. I strongly suggest a visit from a regional supervisor to address this terrible situation. I will no longer shop there and will let friends and family members and social media about my experience. Resolve It!!!
