PennFed wonderful first experience, terrible second experience

December 15, 2023

I obtained my first and only personal loan from Penfed in July of 2021. It was for $5000 and I used it to boost my credit score. I ended up paying this off early in December of 2022. I was overall pleased with the experience and kept the app on my phone for future purposes. This month, December of 2023, I decided to do it again. This time to used the funds to help my son repair his car. So I called. I asked for the same $5000 in a personal loan. Then I waited for an email saying either yay or nay. I waited 4 days with no word. Finally, after 5 days, I called back in. The lady told me my application for $20,000 was denied for a whole host of reasons including my credit score. I was in shock! I said I never asked for $20,000! I asked for $5000! She just said well the $20,000 was denied. On top of that, my credit score now is much higher than it was when I got the first loan from them! So I don’t get it. DID I MENTION THAT I NEVER ASKED FOR THAT MUCH?????!!!!! I still do not understand what happened and no one has called me or emailed me or anything to explain to me how $5000 got turned into $20,000. I am so disappointed in PenFed and will not be using them again after this fiasco. I thought about calling in again and asking to speak to a supervisor but screw it. I’m done. The only thing that might ever get me back is a phone call or email acknowledging that they screwed up my application somewhere along the line. They record the phone calls….a simple review of the original phone call would reveal that I asked for “between $4 and $5 thousand” (my exact words). So, PenFed? 👎👎👎👎👎
