BMO Unresolved Disappointing Account Issue

May 30, 2025

BMO, $1300 Frozen in My Account with No Resolution. I’m extremely frustrated with how BMO has handled an issue involving a fraudulent check deposited into my account. I cashed a check for someone I thought was a friend. Unfortunately, this person took advantage of me—she reported to her welfare caseworker that the check was stolen, and then had a replacement check issued while trying to collect the original cash from me. Essentially, she tried to double dip, and now I’m stuck dealing with the fallout. I informed BMO about the situation immediately. The bank froze the check—but instead of reversing it or removing it from my account, the funds are now permanently held, showing a $1300 balance I can’t access or remove. I’ve been told this could take six years to resolve. Why? No one at BMO has been able to explain this, and I can’t even get through to someone at the head office to escalate the matter. I’ve done the right thing by reporting the scam. Why am I being punished for someone else’s fraud? I’m seriously considering moving to another bank if this can’t be resolved promptly.

Request Written Explanation of the 6-Year Hold: Ask BMO to provide a written explanation for why the check is held for six years, and under what policy or regulation. You have a right to clear communication and dispute any hold you believe is unfair. ✅ 3. BMO Disappointing Experience

May 16, 2025

BMO, Closed savings account. Have not received my money . I opened a savings account at the end of April under the guise for every $200 dollars you deposit you will get $5 dollars. My first month there was $3 dollars deducted from my deposit statement fee. So I closed the account immediately on May 7th. I was told in two days a cashiers check will be mailed to me with the address provided. Today is May 16th and I still have not received my money yet. So I called again to ask where my money was, so the customer service agent said my computer froze. She said I will transfer you to the next customer agent then her computer froze, so she wanted to transfer me again. I said I am at work to, I don’t have time to keep being transferred. I just want my money back which I have not received. I have to say I have dealt with many banks and they have never treated new potential customers this way. I would not recommend any one do business with BMO. I wanted to eventually open checking account and was even interested in home equity line of credit. I am so glad I did not proceed.
