This place is overpriced and underserviced. Management is rude and run poorly. It has gone down hill since my last
visit 1 year ago considerably. The complimentary breakfast was completely bare minimum. The only fruit served was
bananas. (last time they had apples & oranges also) No bagels or pastry. Hot tub hours are 10 am to 10 pm instead
of opening at 8 am so guests have time to use it before check out at 11 am. (check in at 3pm) Nearly $300/night
for 20 hours? They overcharged the room by $45.00 when we arrived. My reservations clearly stated a lower price.
I went back to the office with my paperwork. After waiting several minutes for the Manager to review my reservations,
he reluctantly refunded our money with not so much as an apology. It was more like resentment refunding us. They never even thanked us for our business. (a must in any successful place!) The room itself had no towel bars in the bathroom, no closing curtain in the room. Only a white sheer that lets all the light in. No room darkening curtains??
Lastly, the blankets were horrendous. They were comparable to army blankets that were more like burlap sacks.
They were rough and scratchy. After staying at a wonderful B&B in Capitola the night before for the same price,
there was no comparison, like night and day. I don't know how this place stays in business with management
like that. Replace them with people who know what REAL HOSPITALITY is! We were basically treated with contempt.
If it weren't for customers, they wouldn't have jobs! They are very fortunate and should be thankful to manage a hotel in a wonderful seaside town like Santa Cruz!
SIDE NOTE: The place is noisy with lots of passing traffic on Cliff Drive.

I stayed at the Howard Johnson in Newark NJ on frontage road. non smoking room yea right such a big lie I got sick being in their less to minutes the room stink the hall stink I did not feel safe rude front desk folks the place is true dump, I'm so shock about this hotel I never book with them again. they need to be condemned
I've read all the comments, and mine are pretty much the same regarding the Howard Johnson's in Niagara Falls, NY. So I guess it's safe to say this hotel chain doesn't care given that negative comments, and lots of them, date back to at least 2014. I will try to seek recourse through my credit card company and will find out who owns this hotel chain. Perhaps the NYS Attorney General might be interested in this information! At the very least, I won't be recommending this Howard Johnson's or any other ever!

I was lied to upon arrival, the women told me I couls check in at 11am. Coming from MA is headed out at 6am only to arrive and have to sit outside for 6 hour waiting to check in. Beyond disappointed. Never booking again and will tell everyone not to
Stayed at the Howard Johnson located at 8280 Highway 83 academy blvd north in Colorado springs , co.
This was the absolutely worst place I have ever stayed. As soon as I pulled into the parking lot I felt like I was driving into a slum.
Not much I could do since I used Expedia for my trip or I would have turned around and went down the road.
First off the girl behind the counter gave me a room that had already been booked. I got up to my room and there were 3 guys out there smoking away. Mind you the room was suppose to be no smoking.
Went back down and the girl caught me and asked what was wrong with my room, so I told her. She did give me a larger room no charge.
Now upon finally finding my room, it was horrible. It was run down and nasty, and for a no smoking room the walls of the bathroom looked as yellow as corn.
I went back out and the door I just went through, the lock was broken so I had to go the long way around to get back to my truck.
Going around to leave for work one time some guy came screaming through the parking lot full speed and nearly hit me head on.
Now on Friday thankful this hell trip was over, I go out to my car and what do I see….a used HYPODERMIC NEEDLE laying next to my truck. I sure hope some child doesn't grab this. I am sure it came to the cracked out gang banger who came knocking on my door looking for some girl name "cher".
I would like to know how the corporate office at wyndam or whoever owns this chain can even let one of their hotels continue to operate like this.
I will never use this hotel chain again or anything from wyndam. If i knew who to send an email to I would demand my freaking money back. Seriously thinking of contacting the better business bureau.
Hi, I stayed at the Howard Johnson in West Fargo, ND, June 22-25, 2017. There was no iron/ironing board in the room. When I asked for them, I received an iron that didn't work and the clerk didn't looked for an ironing board in other rooms but couldn't find one and then he wasn't sure what an ironing board was. I did finally receive an iron that worked but had to iron on the bed. There was no way to call the front desk from the room phone. There was no clock in the room. The pool was under repair but the website didn't mention it when booking the room. The mattress was terrible. I had back pain all during my stay. There were holes in the face towels and some had stains on them. When the room was cleaned on 6/23, housekeeping didn't close the room door all the way, which I discovered when I returned at the end of the day. The breakfast was terrible. There were waffles, cereal, juice and mini cinnamon rolls. I know it's a continental breakfast but there is usually at least fruit and donuts in a continental breakfast. The location was good, but I will definitely not stay there again. I was in room 102 from 6/22 to 6/25. I really would like at least a partial refund for the inconvenience. Thank you
I don't know there is enough room to write the praise about the Howard Johnson Hotel at 3052 Marnie Waterloo IA. I'll start with what they didn't know, my husband of 56 of marriage passed away 6 days before my arrival in Waterloo. I was in Waterloo to attend my grandson's graduation at UNI. I promised my husband I'd be there. What the management knew: My daughter and husband we supposed to arrive in Cedar Rapids at 7:30 pm flight was delayed. Then 10:50 delayed again arrived at 12:10 am. Our reservation were at the Howard Johnson in Waterloo which is 50+ miles from the airport. Asked if the owner had a property in Cedar Rapids. The desk clerk woke the owner up and he personally found me lodging for the night. When we arrived the next day there was a problem with my Expedia reservations, again he solved another problem. We have been here 3 days, leaving tomorrow going home to Washington State with a grandson holding his Master's degree. Please do something to acknowledge the this owner. If you have any questions my name should be on file arrival 5-5 depart 5-8
